Recordat session #016 in Berlin is bringing two innovative artists who are changing music from the Mediterranean as we know it.
Muqata'a - مُقاطعة, one of the founders of the Ramallah Underground hip-hop group, and the one who sparked a whole new generation of artists in the region bringing his new live set for the first time to Berlin in an event by Recordat to introduce what he calls his interpretation of hip-hop. A glitchy, dark, noisy sound from his surrounding. "A joyful, ecstatic, experimental, so cut-up and fragmented" This is how Drew McDowall described it.
3Phaz, an upcoming Cairo based artist who managed to reinterprets the weddings sound "Mahraganat" by infusing it with bassy techno, gabber beats to create what he call Post-Shaabi. 3Phaz will be playing his live set for the first time in Berlin at Recordat #016.
To set the mood of this session, our good friend from Japan, the Berlin-based artist Shins-k, will play an opening Dj set to fill the U-bahn station with the right bass for the night.
AUCO, the Berlin-based Dj and a member of No Shade Collective will take the floor from Muqata'a to introduce us to some complex techniques of Djing while deconstructing club tracks and incorporating newly-evolved genres as Gqom, Jersey club, as well as old-school Jungle, Garage, and Ragga.
Two years ago back in Amman, Jordan we started our first Recordat session with the spirit of highlighting the evolving underground scene of innovative electronic music producers and Djs from the Mediterranean. Today Recordat is in Berlin with the same spirit and the same mission bringing to Berlin a thriving music scene to an audience searching for a new sound.
