We're excited to announce the first of two events we're having in Limerick this November and trust us it's a big one.
Since it began at the end of May 2015 we've been huge admirers of AVA Festival and what the people behind it have done for electronic audio/visual arts on the island of Ireland. Through their collaboration with Boiler Room they've created a platform that has launched so many Irish acts onto the international stage. On top of that they've facilitated so many iconic moments such as BICEP dropping their edit of Dominica 'Gotta Let You Go' and Space Dimension Controller dropping Ayla - Ayla [along with many more] that went viral and got a lot of people into types of music, that they may have never come across otherwise. In a nutshell they're the embodiment of what we feel the scene is all about. So when they got in touch to collaborate on an event in Limerick as a part of their UK & Ireland tour, to say we were hyped about it is an understatement.
At Cabal our core goal is and always will be to promote Irish Music, Fashion & Art. But probably like many of you, we follow up and coming artists from beyond the island of Ireland and for a while now have been toying with the idea of hosting a few [infrequent] additional events over the course of the year along with our regular monthly parties where we'll bring over acts we like and think deserve the attention of your ears for a night!
So with that in mind what better time to host our first international act than when AVA are coming to town?
That's what we thought, so that's exactly what we're going to do.
On Monday, November 25th Cabal X AVA are joined in Dolans by O'Flynn, Heads, Paul Byrne, Cabal DJs, Daire O'Shaughnessy b2b Seán Aherne & more TBA. In the warehouse the Cabal DJs joined by O'Flynn and Paul Byrne so expect House/Disco/Afro/World music all night long. On the terrace/Upstairs our residents Daire Shox & Sean Aherne are joined by Heads to create a soundtrack of Breaks/Electro/Techno all night long.
O’Flynn is just of the back of releasing his debut album ‘Aletheia’ on the 6th September 2019 on Silver Bear Recordings. His debut album follows a series of acclaimed productions which explored his wide-ranging style: from squelchy acid on Ninja Tune to loose and luscious jazz on Blip Discs, as well as the high-octane 12” released on his own Hundred Flowers imprint earlier this year. It features ’Sunspear’ and ‘Painted Wolf’; his latest singles that continue to hone in on his ever expansive electronica style and recontextualisation of evocative world music samples, combined with layers of percussion and powerful energy. You may recognise a couple of his tracks from our after movies. With standout 12” debuts ‘Tyrion’ and ‘Desmond’s Empire’ in 2015, O’Flynn quickly established his reputation as “one of dance music’s most prosperous newcomers”, as put by Boiler Room. Having gained support from Four Tet, Gilles Peterson, Bonobo, Denis Sulta, James Blake and Hessle Audio and with his debut album just released, he continues his musical evolution to become a resonant force within dance music.
Emmet Dougan aka Heads is a Belfast based DJ/Producer and resident of Vertigo. He is no stranger to AVA parties regularly playing their castle parties and is known to be one of the belfasts finest selectors of techno & electro.
