Wondering what Kaban means? Because of the terrain around the Mayan dwellings, the earth itself became an important element that Kaban connected to. The area was surrounded by volcanoes and prone to earthquakes, and the Mayans recognized the unpredictability of the element. The Kaban was seen as representation of the literal force that the earth possesses as well as the forces in humans. It's a force in us all. It's movement, tremor, and all that moves. It's living the spiritual realms, generating ideas, but also governing one's self. It's the part of us that's active mentally, filled with energy, always on the move, facing everything.
