Sam Barker grew up in the UK and was involved in music for many years before he made the move to Berlin over a decade ago. He quickly made a name for himself as one of the co-founders of Leisure System, the game-changing Berghain residency that help shift the German superclub’s focus from minimal techno into outer realms of rhythmic experimentation. As a producer, Barker initially gained notoriety as part of Barker & Baumecker, a collaboration with German producer Andy Baumecker. The duo’s slew of releases – mostly for the Berlin-based, Berghain-associated Ostgut Ton label – twisted techno into unexpected places, following both producers’ diverse range of influences. ★★★ Frankie Teardrop ★★★ [dj] (Vancouver/Montreal, LIP / Slut Island) https://soundcloud.com/frankieteardrop1 Newly landed back in Vancouver after a 10 year stint in Montreal, throwing the finest queer parties (LIP) and life changing festival (Slut Island), Frankie Teardrop has been on the forefront of breaking down boundaries. This will be their s.M.i.L.e. debut, and we couldn’t be more excited! ★★★ Jade Statues ★★★ [dj] (s.M.i.L.e.) https://soundcloud.com/jadestatues Jacob Sexsmith aka Jade Statues is an artist and musician of various disciplines who has been making sonorous electronic music since the age of 14, focusing on club-ready tracks and headphone lullabies alike. His second EP ‘My Blade’ is a short but realized sonic vision which quickly saw regular plays on Rinse FM & NTS Radio as well as support from people like Dis Fig, Objekt, Martha, Kastle, Galtier, and more. He has been described as having “a knack for refined maximalism... stacking all manner of sonic artillery in tracks that are undeniably overwhelming while still letting each element bubble and burst on its own terms”.
