It was guarded by the Shepherd of Ipavu at the bottom of the lake. One time, his daughter asked him if she could see the night, so the Shepherd went to his stable and gave her a coconut. Full of curiosity she opened it and suddenly, she was plunged into darkness. Lost in that beauty, the daughter of the Shepherd of Ipavu began to separate brightness from shadows, like strands of her hair. When she pulled out the last one, the sky turned deeply red and the light of the day faded into stars. The night was born.
