  • The nineteenth edition of the creative development program with James Young from Darkstar, Bodyverse, Sable. James Young Since their early dancefloor 12”s on Hyperdub from 2008 and through two vocal-led albums in 2010 (‘North’) and 2013 (‘News From Nowhere’), Darkstar have been an influential force in the UK’s electronic scene. Following collaborations with the likes of Actress, Wild Beasts and Zomby they released their third album ‘Foam Island’, to critical acclaim in 2015 on Warp Records. It was a hugely ambitious record, buzzing with the energy and excitement of all the possibilities currently inherent in electronic music, yet it was also one that was shaped by the prevailing social and political climate at that point in time. Darkstar have continued their dedication to collaboration – releasing music with Empress Of (XL) and Gaika (Warp), collaborating with director Lucy Luscombe and Random Acts for Channel 4, working on ground-breaking live dance performances with choreographer Holly Blakey (Micah Levi) and scoring the Palm d’Or nominated short film ‘Dreamlands.’ Alongside these the band worked with Metal Liverpool, Arts Council England and Harthill Community centre to create an installation and performance piece with teens from migrant communities. The final performance, TRACKBED, was performed at the Barbican in London. http://www.darkstar.ws Bodyverse is the project of Berlin-based artist Andy Mintaka. She is an electronic music composer and an educated instrumentalist, whose practice focuses on sound synthesis. She holds two master degrees in Fine Arts from the Universities of Granada and Basque Country, respectively. Her practice as a poet, paintress and masks maker, influences her aesthetic in music both for her art covers and live performances. Bodyverse has released five LP on physical format through Lontano Series, Rohs! Records and her own Sunrise Ruby Records, garnering positive reviews from Bandcamp Daily and Groove Magazine. Her upcoming LP will be released on American Dream Records in late 2020. https://lontanoseries.bandcamp.com/album/i-could-go-lucid https://bodyverse.bandcamp.com/ Sable is the solo electronic project of vocalist/producer Isobel Hambleton. Born in Manchester, Isobel's songwriting draws on the philosophical heritage of the skeptical, romantic post-punk bands of 1980s Northern England. This songwriting sparked a short-lived career as a pub folk singer. However, increasingly inspired by the lush electronic arrangements of artists such as Bon Iver, James Blake and, more recently, Grimes, Isobel began to teach herself electronic music production and relocated to Berlin. Combining a wide range of influences, her music is a reflection of a young woman trying to understand a complicated world. https://soundcloud.com/isobel-hambleton Admission: 5€ presales (plus tax & fees), 5€ door Admission: 5€ VVK / 5€ AK // ABOUT AMPLIFY BERLIN Amplify Berlin is a creative development program at ACUD Kunsthaus. Each month, Berlin-based emerging musicians have the chance to be mentored in composition, production and live performance by established musicians. During each one-month residency, two emerging artists receive feedback and advice from their mentor, work in a private music studio, develop their live set in the ACUD Clubs concert space, as well as present an online radio show. Each residency will culminate in a live set performed by the mentees at a showcase event on a lineup alongside their mentor. Amplify Berlin is co-financed by the Europäischer Fonds für regionale Entwicklung (EFRE) and Musicboard Berlin.
