The twentieth edition of the creative development program with mentor with mentor Yuri Landman and mentees Brad Nath & Obi Blanche.
Yuri Landman is a musician and an inventor of musical instruments. Based on prepared guitar techniques, he built his first instrument in 2001 to solve the inaccuracy of instant preparations. He has built experimental instruments for acts such as Sonic Youth, Half Japanese, Lou Barlow, Liars, HEALTH, Liam Finn, Kaki King, Melt-Banana, Micachu & The Shapes, The Go! Team, These Are Powers, Women, Rhys Chatham, Tomoko Sauvage and others..
Besides performing and inventing instruments, his main co-activity is giving instrument building courses and lectures. Since 2009 he has given over 200 DIY-instrument building workshops in Europe and the US at music festivals, music academies, art academies, concert venues and art spaces. In 2012 Yuri Landman and Bart Hopkin published Nice Noise, a book about string preparations and extended techniques for guitar. He also develops motorized sound installations and composes for dance. Landman is a regular guest teacher at the Academy for Pop Culture (Leeuwarden NL), Zadkine Pop Academy (Rotterdam NL), PXL Pop Academy (Hasselt BE), TAMK (Tampere FI), FH Joanneum (Graz AU), Aalto Uni (Helsinki FI) and he gave lectures and workshops at KHM (Cologne), Ghent University, RAM in London, Bradford University, Nantes University, Salford University (UK), Sibelius Academy (Helsinki FI) and Willem de Kooning Academy (Rotterdam NL).

Brad Nath is developing listening techniques that amplify the ways humans are terraforming Earth. His sound structures, live performances, music compositions and material research expose the sonic environments below the surface of the world we have built for ourselves. He began his research while studying to become an architect at Cornell University in New York by casting microphones within concrete, plastic and soil. He is currently enrolled in the Solo/Dance/Authorship MA at HZT in Berlin, where his works test new forms of empathy between humans and their environments.

Obi Blanche is a Finnish experimental guitarist, producer, and photographer. He has chosen guitar as his main sound source because of its physicality, energy and direct connection to the human body. He’s interested in creating new sounds by modifying the instrument and altering the signal chain starting from the guitar itself. Always collaborating with people, he cherishes sharing moments of magic by combining characters with versatile talent.

ABOUT AMPLIFY BERLIN
Amplify Berlin is a creative development program at ACUD Kunsthaus. Each month, Berlin-based emerging musicians have the chance to be mentored in composition, production and live performance by established musicians.
During each one-month residency, two emerging artists receive feedback and advice from their mentor, work in a private music studio, develop their live set in the ACUD Clubs concert space, as well as present an online radio show. Each residency will culminate in a live set performed by the mentees at a showcase event on a lineup alongside their mentor.
Amplify Berlin is co-financed by the Europäischer Fonds für regionale Entwicklung (EFRE) and Musicboard Berlin.
