  • Label boss Darren Emerson continues his only UK residency at The End with a scorching line up for June’s Underwater night. Since leaving his Underworld days behind, Darren Emerson has been busy turning Underwater into one of the most successful dance imprints in the UK. Now on its 75th release, the next instalment from the label will be the Greetings EP on June 19th from John Dahlback and David Eckenbeck under their ‘Beckster’ moniker. A new Underwater compilation series ‘Solo’ also begins next month, with the first edition mixed by Deepgroove. Darren, who is currently working on a full length artist album, will be headlining the main room with his distinctive style of driving house. Darren will be joined by label mate and King Kong records head honcho Sharam Jey. His recent releases on both Underwater and King Kong showcase his diversity, from the chunky electro house of Monday Morning / Boarding School, produced with Lou Lou Players, to the Prince inspired ‘Push Your Body’. Sharam dropped his debut artist album ‘4 da loverz’ in September last year – a heady mix of filthy basslines and eighties synths. Slave recordings head honcho D Ramirez completes the line up in the main room with his distinctive brand of funked-up, twisted, tribal, electro house. A prolific producer and remixer, his reworking of Bodyrox’s ‘Yea Yea’ has been tearing clubs apart across the land. Upstairs in AKA, a man who needs no introduction, Frankie Knuckles the ‘godfather of house’ will be digging out some Chicago classics for Nocturnal. The story of Frankie’s assent to stardom has been well documented, and he is justifiably credited with defining a whole new genre of music with his early sets at The Warehouse club in Chigaco. Joining Frankie will be house duo The Shapeshifters - musicians, producers, international DJ’s and label owners – they have a lot more to their name than just the 2004 Miami anthem ‘Lola’s Theme’ which propelled them into the limelight. With Frankie Knuckles himself declaring them to be the leading lights of dance music’s new breed and last year’s house music awards pronouncing them ‘ best breakthrough DJ’s’, they are going from strength to strength. Expect to hear deep electronic grooves, string-laden emotive house and bass driven electro-tinged cuts. In the lounge Arveene will be mixing up everything from booty shakin’ electro to dancehall with a bit of hip hop, indie and house chucked in for good measure.
