Body Hack, a happy hour turned digital party raising funds for trans and nonbinary communities internationally, is ramping up for its next edition on Saturday, Oct 10th from 12pm-12am ET, with DJ sets and performances by a cast of entirely trans and nonbinary artists, speakers, poets, and comedians from Chicago, South Africa, Mexico City, Los Angeles, Colombia, Boston, Puerto Rico, Seattle, Peru, Miami, Portland, and across NYC.
This month’s lineup includes Ms. Boogie, br0nz3_g0dd3ss, Fela Gucci, Mister Wallace, Cecilia Gentili, Morena Espiritual, a stacked poetry hour with guests like Alan Pelaez Lopez and jayy dodd, a comedy salon with Ana Fabrega (Los Espooky’s, HBO), Patti Harrison (Tonight Show) & more, plus a fundraising workshop for the trans and queer community.
To date, Body Hack has raised over $35K for a wide array of initiatives supporting trans and nonbinary individuals, groups, and organizations—this time, the collective is rallying behind eleven distinct fundraisers covering a wide range of needs, including housing, gender affirming surgeries, commissary funds, mental health resources, arts programs, and emergency microgrants.
The coronavirus pandemic and resulting mass of job loss and housing insecurity, as well as the escalation of anti-Black and anti-trans violence throughout the US and beyond, has had devastating effects on trans communities of color. Nevertheless, these communities continue to demonstrate their resilience through mutual aid and redistribution, a practice passed down throughout generations of queer and trans history. As inheritors of this legacy, the organizers of Body Hack insist on continuing to bring people together and support our communities fiercely, harnessing our shared wisdom, creativity, and determination to uplift and protect one another no matter what.
