So, make sure to get down early! ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ★ The Venue ★ There are two distinct spaces within HWK and both are suitable for mixed households. HWK was originally a small cocktail and DJ bar that launched only last summer with an intimate interior courtyard that serves as an oasis in the industrial landscape of Hackney Wick. As the bar itself was too small to comply to social distancing measures post lockdown, they initially focused on their interior courtyard and converted it into a restaurant and drinks area with seating. Professional sound was installed, providing drinks and diners with surround sound from the DJs in the bar. The main event will be in the space next door. A small car park that they converted over the summer that has hosted plenty of DJs and parties. Our bank holiday session with Nick The Record was off the charts. For the Winter months, they’ve erected a roof structure with heating and installed a brand-new, high-end sound system from East London Audio. The area is fully COVID compliant with plenty of seating on the dance floor, table service, as well as food being served to the table from the restaurant next door. Both spaces have their own unique atmosphere and DJs. If you prefer intimacy and the music a little quieter, book a table in the bar / restaurant. On Resy select one of the “Courtyard” table types, for one of these tables. If you want the next best thing to a proper party in these strange times, which is where the headline DJs will be playing, book a table for the outside terrace (the converted car park), by selecting “Yard” or “Gazebo”. Or it may be you want pre drinks in the restaurant area and head to next door afterwards! ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ The DJs FRIDAY ★ Kiwi (Crossbreed) ★ Crossbreed boss, Kiwi, headlines the main terrace outside on Friday. The story of Alex ‘Kiwi’ Warren has a humble root as an in-house promoter for world famous ‘DURRR’ night, the club started by Erol Alkan’s much celebrated Trash team post end date back in late 2007. As a young art-student at Goldsmiths, Alex started Orlando Boom, and sister Disco-night Kate Boss. These sold out parties caught the attention of the Columbo Group, who were launching a new club in Dalston called ‘The Nest.’ Impressed by Alex Warren’s passion for music and success as a one-man promotions company they appointed him booking and promotions manager for The Nest. Kiwi now runs Crossbreed: sex positive raves where all prejudice and bigotry are left at the door. Crossbreed is a safe, queer and body positive space: a hedonist’s playground and open to anyone. They operate a zero tolerance policy to homophobia/prejudice or consent violations of any kind. They have a strict dress code and welcome you into a place where sex is welcome but breaking a sweat on the dancefloor is the number one priority! Don’t worry. You don’t need to strip down to leather pants for our party! The only dress code is to style yourself in line with Halloween! As a producer Kiwi has cemented his reputation with a steady output of 20 odd releases since his debut on Jack from Friendly Fires and Edwin from Foals’ label, Deep Shit. It was the release of his ‘Animals’ EP on Duke Dumont’s Blasé Boys Club imprint that really put Kiwi in the limelight though. The debut EP featured 4 genre bending tracks, informed by Kiwi’s passionate and eclectic music tastes. Notably A side ‘Short Tail’ went on to be nominated for a ‘Best of British’ award for track of the year, and was listed in the top 10 tunes of the year by DJ Mag. This tried and tested blueprint can be seen and felt in his DJs sets, which often genre hop from the Balearic, Disco, Soul to Detroit-Techno, House and everything in between without ever letting up on the dance floor; a classy form from a classy artist. Kiwi has also released on Defected, Sneaky, Needwant, Kitsune, Needwant, Optimo Music, Futureboogie, 17 Steps, Disco Halal, Kompakt and had a string of remixes for Duke Dumont, Petite Meller, Breakbot, Robert Owens Lane 8, to name but a few, earning support from Andrew Weatherall, DJ Harvey, Daniel Avery, Erol Alkan, Duke Dumont, Rob da Bank, Annie Mac and Skream amongst others. Kiwi has taken his music global with brilliant DJ performances at Warehouse Project in Manchester, Amnesia Ibiza, The Arches Glasgow, Palais De Tokyo in Paris, Razzmatazz in Barcelona, as well back to back sets with Andrew Weatherall, Ivan Smagghe and Friendly Fires. On top of this, he holds down a residency at The Nest, XOYO and as a touring DJ with Duke Dumont’s Blasé Boys Club Night’s. So this really is a special chance to see him in an intimate environment! ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Restaurant Bar ★ Damon Martin (Disco Bloodbath) ★ If you prefer to enjoy our bar / restaurant this Friday, you can enjoy the sounds of East London disco legend, Damon Martin, of Disco Bloodbath fame. Damon, along with Ben Pistor and Dan Beaumount, ran one of the best underground parties to have graced the capital. They started a disco only party at a time, when everyone else was doing tech house and minimal. In their own words they played “music that goes bump in the night.” Their humble, little pink basement below a Jamaican café on Amhurst Rd, became instantly popular and welcomed a colourful, mixed crowd from the fashion and music scene. There were queues round the block and on any given occasion there, you’d find big name DJs, famous club promoters, models, stylists, designers and the who’s who from the gay scene all in ecstasy on the dance floor together. Sweat dripping from ceiling. It’s no surprise then that they quickly outgrew their humble abode and went on to headline clubs and festivals, hosting their own tents at Lovebox with Hercules & Love Affair headlining live. They also entered the production world and ran their own label. All good things come to an end and the trio eventually hung up their disco capes. Dan went on to open Dalston Superstore, Dance Tunnel and Voodoo Ray Pizza. Ben opened a pub in Brighton and now Damon now works for global music brand Music Concierge - one of the leading experts in the creation of brand identity through music, specialising in providing complex playlist solutions for some of the best-known names. For over a decade, they have been responsible for the signature sounds of internationally renowned hotel groups, iconic retailers and other branded spaces across the globe. It’ll be great to get Damon to dust off his favourite disco 12s and and back to where he belongs this Friday! Behind the decks for you! ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ SATURDAY - OUTDOOR TERRACE / YARD The main event is on Saturday, on actual Halloween! We have 6 DJs lined up throughout the day and are offering brunch till 3:30 pm in both the restaurant and the outdoor terrace. Get down nice and early as we open outside from 1pm with DJ Aiko. We’re offering 2 for 1 cocktails outside between 1pm and 3pm. ★ DJ AIKO ★ Aiko has been part of the REVIVEHER family for our 10 year existence. From doing the guestlist in the loft space at Mother Studios around the corner, to blowing up all our balloons, she’s seen it all and soaked up all the musical influences. Inspired by the parties and guests that have graced our decks, she took up DJing two years ago. She will be opening proceedings. ★ REVIVEHER DJS ★ The main men behind REVIVEHER, Will Best and Bi-Bop will keep the groove flowing during the afternoon as you booze to the groove and eat to the beat. With over 30 years experience DJing between the pair, they have selections far and wide enough for you to dance for days! We have two very special guests headlining in the evening: ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ★ Red Rack’em ★ Red Rack’em is our other main guest for Saturday. He's slayed dancefloors across the world with Wonky Bassline Disco Banger, In Love Again, How I Program, The Joubert Singers remix and many more. Killer festival sets, mega tours of US, Asia and Australia. Mixes for BBC Radio 1 and 6 Music. Broadcaster for Rinse FM. Label manager of Bergerac Records. But most of all just a great artist. His name is Red Rack'em. If you prefer a more chilled Halloween on Saturday, or it may be that you want to dine / have drinks in a quieter setting, before your table booking in our main terrace, then look no further than our restaurant / bar, which is open from 1pm for brunch and from 6pm – close, serving a delicious menu of tacos, scotch eggs, ceviche, poke and a weekly special. DJs 2pm – 10pm. A perfect place to start off your day. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ JAMES PRIESTLEY (Secret Sundaze) There’s not much more to say here other than James is one half of London house music institution, Secret Sundaze. Along with Giles Smith, James has been running his party for 19 years. From humble roots at The Poet and 93 Feet East on a Sunday in Shoreditch, to various warehouse parties, multiple festival appearances across the world and their regular fixtures at Oval Space and Pickle Factory of recent times, there’s not one serious house head that doesn’t respect Secretsundaze (from Ron Trent and Joe Claussell to the younger generation of Joy Orbison and Floating Points ); and not one house music lover that hasn’t attended one of their parties. The list of house music royalty who have DJ’d at their parties is also too countless to name. Secret Sundaze have recently secured funding to rehouse Secret Sundaze studios: a Community focussed recording studio nurturing the sound of artists, across all levels. Their record label is now also nearly in its 10th year and approaching 30 releases. Despite their long history DJing, James and Giles, have finally got their productions rolling, on labels Phonica Records, Mule Musiq and their own label. Secret Sundaze have also recently secured funding to rehouse Secret Sundaze studios: a Community focussed recording studio nurturing the sound of artists, across all levels. The quintessential DJ’s DJ (nearly always playing vinyl only sets), it’s a pleasure to welcome James back to REVIVEHER after a long hiatus, especially to dig deep in to his record box for a more eclectic set. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Saturday - Restaurant / Bar ★ GOOD BLOCK ★ Good Block will be soundtracking the bar/restaurant during the afternoon with a selection of sounds from around the globe: balearic, Japanese synth pop, proto house, afro disco, kwaito, Caribbean, reggae, new age meanderings and other worldly treasures, which is well reflected in their first EP offering, aptly titled “4 Corners EP.” Much like their DJ sets, their parties are centred around odd-ball gems and have hosted DJs such as Jamie Tiller, John Gomez, Bradley Zero, Jonny Rock, Jon K, Apiento and many more. You can catch Good Block on the radio waves of NTS, Red Light Radio and Worldwide FM, as well as at places such as Brilliant Corners, Five Miles, Glastonbury and now HWK! ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ★ DISCOTHEQUE CREDITS ★ Discotheque Credits will be taking care of the decks after 6pm – 10pm. Having playing played alongside an incredible hive of talent, Discothèque Credits has built a reputation as the go-to afterhours disco DJ – with one foot in the underground: warming up for many a London nightlife disco regular from In Flagranti, Marcus Marr, Gramme, and Mark Moore and the other foot in the overround - playing alongside household names: Zane Lowe (Beats Radio) The Maccabees, The Horrors, Django Django, Paul Epworth, Don Letts (6 Music). The avid record collector continues to share his distinctive sound joining the dots between Disco, Balearic edits, House - with regular sets at popular venues (The Book Club, The Ace hotel, London Fashion Week & The Electric Light Station). Alongside DJing, Discothèque Credits production airplay has come from the likes of Horse Meat Disco, Luke Unabomber, Bill Brewster and Lauren Laverne, featuring in radio playlists from a varied cross selection of DJs, Greg Wilson putting Discothèque Credits into heavy rotation in recent club sets (from Tokyo’s Red Bull Music Academy to Glastonbury) and Jonjo Jury playing ‘All night 54 dancing’ during the Tate Modern’s Musée de la danse event. A regular at audiophile spot, Spiritland, this will be his first time at HWK and first time for us. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ That completes our fun filled, foodie and music junky Halloweekend! Make sure you figure out which day you will be coming for and whether you want to reserve a table in the bar / restaurant or for the main outdoor terrace where Kiwi, Red Rack’em will be playing. Both areas are distinctly different and require separate bookings. You can also order food in both areas and both are suitable for mixed households. To reserve tables, head to ★ https://resy.com/cities/ldn/hwk ★ For the bar / restaurant select “Courtyard.” For the outside terrace, select “Yard” or “Gazebo.” Happy Halloweekend! REVIVEHER x
