Creative communities are more collaborative and interdependent than ever before.
To build on this new reality, SHCR and Eastern Margins are inviting artists across China and the diaspora to participate in a novel, experimental music production relay.
We’ve invited 3ASiC, and Guan, HARIKIRI, Yehaiyahan, Yider and YIKII to kick off the process. Together, we hope we (including you!) will contribute towards one combined open-source, decentralised piece of music exploring the limitless possibilities of our new communal landscape, of what lies Through the Window.
The whole production process will be livestreamed on the Eastern Margins Twitch and the SHCR website, while our hosts Heatwolves 热浪 and Jaya speak to our artists about their creative process and relay suggestions and samples to incorporate into the music from our audience.

ARTISTS
3ASiC
Nanjing-born, Shenzhen-based 3ASiC is a producer who's been tirelessly pushing the limits of sound design and audio manipulation for the best part of a decade. His sound uses the absolute cutting edge of music technology innovation to deliver sounds fine-tuned for maximum emotional resonance. Alongside his work for Native Instruments in China, he's appeared for Boiler Room, as well as racking up international collaborations alongside the likes of Nick Hook and Maru.

GUAN
A real Don of the avant-garde plains, Hangzhou native GUAN is owed recognition for his tireless contributions to China’s burgeoning underground scene. As a producer and co-founder of the cutting-edge party-series and record label FUNCTIONLAB, GUAN has pioneered a new dimension of music, delivering the common spirit of punk, techno and synth to a fresh generation of turbulent hedonists craving disruption to the status quo.

HARIKIRI
A British-born music producer, sound designer and DJ based in Chengdu, HARIKIRI is one of originators of China's current wave of rap music. Heavily involved in crafting the sounds of artists like Higher Brothers and Bohan Phoenix, HARIKIRI's honed his skills in Beijing's clubs in the early 2010s, before mutating the strands of his sounds further.

Yehaiyahan
Yehaiyahan, in one alias or another, has been a pivotal figure in China's underground scene for some time. The shanghai based producer and vocalist first emerged as ChaCha, cutting her teeth in the legendary bass collective Uprooted Sunshine. Since then, she's collaborated with The Bug and Kode9, as well as many of the key players in the Chinese underground hip-hop scene, including MC Webber, J-Fever (aka Xiao Laohu), Purple Soul, and Soulspeak. In 2017 she released an album under her experimental moniker Faded Ghost on the future-facing Shanghai label SVBKVLT. Her latest works, 五 and Under The Moonlight, are a journey into the afterglow of dreams.

Yider
Nomad electronic music artist. He comes from the grassland, a town of nomads. Nourished by China's ancestral ethnic culture, he blends Eastern poetry with psychedelic electronic music, creating an ambiguity of traditional music instruments and electronic sound fields. The energy of his music is expressed through both mysterious and romantic Neo-Nomad music style.

YIKII
Yikii is the nightmare princess. Her angelic falsetto sits on-top of equal part jarring and transdencent productions. YIKII represents the new school of Chinese music experimenters - taking influences from the full constellation of the internet's dreams and hopes.

HOSTS
Heatwolves 热浪
Heatwolves is the founder of Love Bang, the kaleidoscopic audiovisual party collective who've been a mainstay of the Shanghai music scene for close to a decade. As the city's scene ebbs and flows, Heatwolves has always been at the edges delivering a colourful outlook.
Jaya
Jaya is energy personified - pure bouncy joy. An expert DJ in her own right, she's the connector in Shanghai, always building brides amongst different scenes.
