  • This month, Intermission brings you three very different acts. Although sounding worlds apart they all strife to make new experimental music using nostalgic, analogue means. Voks from Copenhagen has been signed to the Dekorder label since its inception six years. Though keeping a low profile, with a small number of releases, he won over some dedicated fans such as the late John Peel and Goodipal who both helped promoting his music. He has a distinctive sound due to a self-built 2 oscillator analogue synthesizer. Aleksei Borisov is a Russian electronics pioneer who has been active in a great number of musical projects since the early eighties. Together with drummer Olga Nosova he has been performing for some time now, their first release is called Istanbul Kebab. They mainly use voice, drums, effects, electronics and a vintage Roland 303. Their live show can best be described as schizophrenic; at times it is very funky and energetic, sometimes it’s slow, abstract synths with spoken word. Synchronator is an audiovisual project by Bas van Koolwijk and Gert-Jan Prins, for which the artists have developed their own electronics. The Synchronator device, which is sold online, visualises stripes and patches of colour to music in real-time. The project is a continuation on medium specific experiments between image and sound from the early days of video art. Their live show is combination of overwhelming analogue sounds accompanied by visuals.
