Part Berlin warehouse club, part art installation and part David Lynch-inspired cocktail lounge, get ready to cross the threshold into Transcendence, Barossa Contemporary’s spectacular underground club experience.
On Saturday 9 October, Transcendence is where revellers can expect the unpredictable as part of new destination festival, Barossa Contemporary, from former Barossa locals and Artistic Directors, Zac Tyler and Ruth Blythman.
Enter the abandoned warehouse (Beckwith Park, Nuriootpa) to witness Temple Magic Orchestra (Saturday 9 October) headline the underground party with Three by Three DJs while Carla Lippis and The Bait Fridge take you for a ride into the crevices of their wild imaginations. It’s your playground of joyful abandon.
“We can’t wait for people to experience the world premiere of Transcendence,” says Tyler. “We are working with some of the best DJs and artists in Australia to create a multi-level, adventurous wonderland of music, light, live performance and immersive art.”
Lippis recently returned to South Australia after four years in London’s West End, where she worked as the principal singer at the historic Cafe de Paris, and as the host of notorious nightclub The Box.
“Expect a burst of dystopian rock n roll wrapped in velvet and sequins,” Lippis says of her Transcendence performances. “Think The Stooges fronted by an `80s Isabella Rosellini and shrouded by a smoke machine. Grinding guitars with a louche rhythm section, set alight by my furious and energetic stage presence.”
The Saturday night headliner is Temple Magic Orchestra (Ben Smith) who will be performing live and DJing with a horn section. Joining him for the night are the Three by Three DJs (Billie Justice Thomson, Danvers, and Alix Gannon).
“I'm bloody excited to DJ at this festival,” says Smith. “They're really pushing the boundaries of the consumer's experience, never leaning on the expected and always looking for intrigue and surprise. And their attention to detail makes me very happy. This is going to be something else.”
Temple’s first release was on UK label Midnight Riot and its more techno focused sister label Black Riot Records, and he recently found a new home on Norwegian label Internasjonal, owned by the one and only Prins Thomas.
Reserved only for the adventurous, transcend into a weekend like no other.
