Halloween’s origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. The day marked the end of the harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold winter, a time of year that was often associated with death. Celts believed that on the night before the new year, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred. On the night of October 31 they celebrated Samhain, when it was believed that the ghosts of the dead returned to earth.
Six years ago Hellhouse was hosted under the Second Street Bridge with Mix Master Mike. Then we took a long break, because the Hellhouse magic works best when the worlds of the living and the dead are blurred. Hellhouse has been a Louisville tradition, marrying the old and new of the electronic dance scene for the last two decades, and serving it up with a side of Dionysian excess, costumes, and celebration.
We had big plans for 2020, as it was the first weekend in a long time that Halloween was on a weekend. Obviously plans changed, and a new production team was born: TRANSMIT.
As with every year, HELLHOUSE makes every effort possible to bring you the very best in electronic music from both a historical and modern perspective. We've been honored to host such amazing talent as Mix Master Mike, DJ QBert, Matthew Dear, DJ Hyperactive, Derek Plaslaiko and more. This year is no different. We will release the lineup very soon!
