Max Tundra (artist name of Londoner Ben Jacobs) is set to bring his heartfelt irreverence live to the stage this Friday at punkrock venue West Germany (Skalitzer Str. 133, Kreuzberg).
Since getting his start on Warp Records in the late 90s, Max has released three albums on Domino, the last of which (Parallax Error Beheads You, 2008) took six years to complete. That’s not to say the guy is lazy; in fact, the opposite is true: his songs overflow with so many ideas that they are clearly the product of dutiful studio work, not to mention a stunningly wide array of influences from Frank Zappa to The Neptunes to Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Despite the complexity of his sound, though, there is nearly always an underlying pop element. Tundra successfully interprets his works into a solo act with energetic stage presence, with singing, keyboards, hardware electronics and general flailing about.
Members of Lo Recordings / Ghostly International band The Chap (also from London) will provide support with what is sure to be an equally eclectic DJ set.
