Qreclaim: 2 years after 🖤
From the “after” to the “here-and-now”. The “after”: The place where desires, movements, gatherings were postponed to for the last two years. Within an unprecedented, traumatic situation, DJs and dancers found themselves against a narrative that stated, implicitly and explicitly, “You don’t matter, you don’t exist”. They tried to fill that void in every possible way. With small, secret home gatherings. Livestreams. Mixes. Small parties with laptop speakers in living rooms or portable speakers in parks and squares.
There was the sudden, violent realization that that which was taken until now for granted would have to be re-evaluated, prioritized, that its importance would have to be reassessed. A realization that was quite necessary in the beginning but, as time passed, it became tragicomic.
The “here-and-now”: The materiality of a body next to other bodies. The immediacy of bodies in front of speakers. The unmediated experience unifying the crowd and the DJs within a space. The space - one that can contain all sexual identities, all gender expressions, all their needs and desires.
The “here-and-now”: Twenty-four hours of explosions, oscillations and negotiations with the body and desire in real time. Twenty-four hours of physical presence, expression, ecstasy, melancholy, movement.
The “here-and-now”: Time exists. Space exists. Subjects and their bodies: they do exist, they do matter. Tonight, they dance.
