- Midori Takada is a Japanese percussion virtuoso and composer whose unique artistry spans four decades. She has worked in now legendary constellations such as the Mkwaju Ensemble and made a name for herself internationally for her frugal finesse. Her explorations of the East Asian and West African percussion traditions have resulted in a number of sought-after works, where the masterpiece Through The Looking Glass (1981) has become a pièce de résistance in recent years' great craze for older ambient music. Takada stands with one foot in the broad minimalist compartment and works in many ways in the same spirit as Steve Reich or Philip Glass. Her other foot is somewhere else, not far from the poetic worlds of the fourth-world genre and the mind-expanding harmonics. Midori Takada is a legend in the true sense of the word. It is a great honor for us to be able to offer a concert with this giant in our Black Box.
