By way of their "Nightlife-in-Residence," madison moore’s residency at The Kitchen (January 18–March 6) invites audiences to enter the imagination of a collectively crafted rave environment layered with video projections,
Fog, club lighting, DJ sets, and lectures that explore the significance of queer of color worldmaking, and the impetus to dance as a radical act of somatic pedagogy. Blurring the boundary between private and public space, there will be conversations and listening sessions with moore's extended nightlife community about the cultural, social, and political significance of the dance floor as a multivalent site.
Each Saturday Session, a new DJ that madison has invited will engage histories old and new via Sadie Barnette’s "The New Eagle Creek Saloon" bar (also on-view at The Kitchen) as a queered architectural and conceptual framework, and on the dancefloor. moore's hope is to get everyone dancing, paying homage to the groundbreaking contributions of queer nightlife to performance practice.
Four DJs who will activate Barnette’s bar as part of moore’s Saturday Sessions:Shaun J. Wright (January 22), Nita Aviance (February 5), Juana (February 19), and TYGAPAW (March 5). The series gestures toward the ongoing endurance of queer histories and hold space for the somatic archives of disappeared or lost queer space over time.
