Cardiff based underground music community One Good Thing returns!
Our residency to Carpe Noctem kicks off with a dance exploring music from all corners whilst celebrating the underground sonics of South Wales. We will be threading together the foundations of House music, expect Disco, Boogie, House, Broken Beat, Techno and Jungle.
Hosted in a wonderful new inclusive space; CARPE NOCTEM, Charles Street, in the building formerly known as Minsky's. with a tremendous soundsystem and 3 luminary Welsh DJ’s passionate about bringing people together through sound.
DJ GUY
The words ‘local legend’ get thrown around a lot in artist bios but for Guy Evans aka DJ GUY we believe it is entirely warranted. A well loved and respected DJ truly deserving of their flowers, Guy has been an integral part of Cardiff's underground dance music scene for over 3 decades. He began his first residency in 1990 with Inspiration Dance at The Grand Hotel (now known as the Moon) which at the time was rated #3 in the Top 10 clubs in the UK. Guy went on to cut his teeth in the euphoric crucibles of House and Jungle, in the free parties and clubs during a time considered by many to be a golden era of dance music.
Following this he has left his mark with releases under a host of revered labels including Hypercolour, Exotic Robotics, All Caps, Nord and his own imprint Other World Music. Guy's archived tracks are sprawling explorations of House, Jungle, Techno, Brokenbeat and Jazz. These explorations have helped inform their skills as a selector, Guy is a formidable DJ and a master of the craft. It’s a huge honour for Guy to be joining us on the 29th particularly as the weekend will land on his birthday and he is preparing something VERY special for this.
BODHI
A well known name to South Wales & worldwide alike, BODHI aka Luke Welsby & Olly Howells have been prominent figures of the House scene since 2013 with releases on Strictly Rhythm, Future Boogie, Black Butter, Rinse, Exploited, Ten Thousand Yen and remixes for the likes of The XX and Sampha. They are no strangers to a dancefloor having toured the world several times over, headlined various major festivals and played host to their intimate local parties ROOTS. The Bodhi boys have returned with a refined sound following a few years hiatus with strong recent releases on Shall Not Fade & DJ Haus' imprint Unknown To The Unknown.
SWANDO
Tying everything together will be Carpe Noctem resident & founder of One Good Thing, Swando. With former residencies including The Deep, Blue Honey, Gwdihw, Buffalo and Clwb Ifor Bach. Swando started out in hip hop cyphers, dnb raves & experimental beat nights before finding their footing in loft-inspired House music. Swando has DJ’ed alongside a hugely diverse array of artists over the past decade including Yusef Kamaal, Gilles Peterson, Lone, Children of Zeus and Om Unit. Swando has remixed alongside DJ Spinna and Kaidi Tatham via First Word Records and co-ordinated the City Road Music project for community arts festival Made in Roath. Performing live alongside the likes of Ross From Friends, Lapalux, Little Dragon, Vels Trio and Ishmael Ensemble. He also responsible for Local Produce, an open mic style night that acted as an extension of the One Good Thing community consisting solely of electronic music made in South Wales.

One Good Thing is a collective formed in 2013 and with all of this said we are ultimately just some friends playing records together and a community of music lovers that cannot wait to dance again. Join us and be part of the conversation, we are looking to collaborate and broaden the horizons of the underground of South Wales music.
