Need2Soul 6th Birthday

  • “Before throwing my first party back in 2004”, says Need2Soul promoter Alex Ruello, “I had a sound and atmosphere in my head that I wanted to bring to life. Heroes of mine like Larry Levan, Danny Krivit and Francois K created an engrossing atmosphere through their sets, which could take in disco, boogie, house, new wave, punk funk, electro and anything else that caught their ear. They did so in a way that brought these various sounds together into a coherent whole, the only real criteria being the ability to make people dance. It’s that sound, combined with warm crowds of like-minded music lovers that spurred me on. From the future beats of Gilles Peterson, to Theo Parrish’s unique DJ style, to Ame’s new slant on house, to the unmistakable voice of Q Tip, the only thing I demand of performers is forward thinking music that makes people go wild, but also has a human touch - soul. We’ve had so many amazing guests over the last six years - too many to list, but I know our Ministry line up is massively exciting, even by our standards!” It’s perhaps not surprising then, that Alex has managed to pull out all the stops by inviting dance music giants and Need2Soul favourites Francois K and Jerome Sydenham to provide celebratory sets. Both DJs are at the top of their game and are utterly reliable in rocking the floor cerebrally. Another DJ and producer who personifies the Need2Soul ethos is Juan Atkins. A Detroit icon, Juan pioneered techno and (unlike some of his peers) is still producing tracks and searching for new ways to push the sound that often gets called high tech soul. Glasgow’s The Revenge bring their hypnotic blend of smoking house/disco to the party, highlighting the Need2Soul policy of nurturing rising talents along with bringing the big guns. Another strong Need2Soul affiliate is BBC 1Xtra’s Benji B, who’ll be bringing his cutting edge blend of hip hop, dubstep, broken beat, house and more to the Box. Add to the mix Italian connection Glovibes, kindred sprits Electric Minds taking care of the Loft plus Crazy P - arguably the UK’s (if not the world’s) best proper dance music live act, and the scene is set for colossal night. £15 Advance // £6 from 4am // Students £10 Tickets available from: www.ministryofsound.com/tickets www.ticketweb.co.uk // 08444 771 000 www.residentadvisor.net/mos www.ministryofsound.com/club www.youtube.com/ministryofsoundclub www.facebook.com/ministryofsoundclub www.twitter.com/mossaturdays www.myspace.com/mossaturdaysessions Ministry of Sound 103 Gaunt Street London SE1 6DP 0870 060 0010 Nearest Tube: Elephant and Castle
