Phonica Records returns to the Key for it's 3rd birthday party which will see the shop's rising stars come up against some of the worlds leading DJ/Production talents. Last year's birthday celebrations was the busiest night EVER at the Key with Andrew Weatherall and DJ T causing mayhem inside the club, whilst outside huge queues caused a roadblock! In a time of closing record stores and the rise of digital music, Phonica has gone against the grain by going from strength to strength and developing into Europe's leading Record Shop. In 3 years, the shop has grown to accomodate an unrivalled and diverse selection of underground music with a huge customer base garnered from all corners of the globe. The party at the Key will celebrate the continual success and growth of the shop and website and hopefully provide our friends and loyal customers with an unforgettable night out.
This year, in the main room, we invite minimal producer du jour and infamous DC10 resident Loco Dice who is fresh from his huge summer anthem 'Seeing Thru Shadows' on Minus. This will be one of Loco Dice's last UK dates before he moves to the US in the autumn so we are proud to play host to one of his last European appearances for the foreseeable future. Accompanying Mr Dice in the main room is Canadian Konrad Black, successful DJ, Producer and head honcho of Wagon Repair. Giving the two guests more than a run for their money will be Phonica's very own Heidi and Simon Rigg and Hector. Heidi's star is firmly in ascendence with her imminent mix CD release on Get Physical and accompanying debut single (produced alongside Riton) entitled 'Vejer'. Her mix album 'Monza Club Ibiza Comp. Vol 1’ reflects her broad sets that have landed her a high profile summer residency at Space in Ibiza. Her debut single has already been heralded by the likes of Paul Woolford as this summers underground hit so expect fireworks from Phonicas first lady. Hector (Phonicas very own King of the after hours) will be dropping his dark minimal soundscapes that have seen him become a popular face on the London scene whilst also making a name for himself on tour with Loco Dice at the Cadenza parties in and around Europe. Phonica boss Simon Rigg is a regular at Europe's leading nighteries such as Fabric and Bugged Out at the End and Weekend in Berlin. Simon completes a mouth-watering main room line up.
The second room plays host to none other than Henrik Schwarz who will be playing one of his amazing one off live sets. The hype that followed his live set from Sonar has been nothing short of hysteria! This man is one of the worlds hottest production talents at the moment and an integral part of the untouchable Innervisions crew out of Berlin who have reignited house music with their own brand of soul drenched deep house and techno. One time Phonica staff member and leading London DJ Pete Herbert will be in support with his unique electronic disco sound. Pete's productions (both solo and as Reverso 68 with Phil Mison) have been flying out of the shop and he is currently one of the capitals leading underground DJs and the perfect foil to the deep house sounds of Henrik. And last but not least we have Phonicas very own Jonny Rock, Ryan Shaw and Damon Martin. Many will know Jonny from his work as axe wielder for the mighty Freaks live band. Ryan is coming on leaps and bounds and can be found playing at residing at legendary Back 2 Basics in Leeds and DDD at the Key in London. To round things off Damon Martin will be delving deep into his collection of underground disco gems to get the party started.
