Boudica is a platform that aims to give visibility to gender minorities in music.
Boudica seeks to platform and develop talented artists that lack resources but who can flourish if given access to the platform.
In 2020 we organised the first edition of Boudica Music Conference at Freemasons' Hall.
We have been invited back by Freemasons' Hall and on the 7th of August we will be presenting a full day programme of panels and Electronic Music.
The aim of the conference is to encourage more trans*, female and non-binary individuals to become involved in the music industry by delivering content from professionals they align with.
We have a terrific line up featuring speakers such as Bengi Unsal (Director of ICA), Claire Cordeaux (BAPAM CEO), Ifeoluwa, Lewis G Burton (Inferno), Judy Griffith (fabric) and Katie Tavini.
The panels will be then followed by shows in the Grand Temple from Planningtorock, Nkisi and Bishi.
FULL PROGRAMME BELOW
1) WELLBEING IN THE INDUSTRY DURING THE PANDEMIC
CO-HOSTED BY MUSICIANS UNION
The panel will be a follow-up to the conversation we started back in 2020.
The main topic we focused on was how the pandemic has affected the overall well-being of people working in the music industry.
Two years later we are now slowly exiting the lockdowns but the changes that the pandemic brought to our lives have been devastating and relentless.
We would like to explore how the financial challenges that have affected underrepresented genders have also influenced their mental well-being and how musicians, especially the ones belonging to minorities, can face unique challenges that leave them particularly vulnerable.
We would like to explore the coping mechanism of the individuals and how the last two years have changed the artist practice.

4) SEXISM AND SEXUAL HARRASSMENT THE MUSIC INDUSTRY - SPEAKING ABOUT IT AND ADDRESSING IT
CO-HOSTED BY ASSOCIATION OF ELECTRONIC MUSIC
Two of the most prevailing issues within the electronic music industry continue to be sexism and sexual harrassment. While there has never been more of a spotlight on these issues, there is a long way to go. Women and non-binary people still face huge barriers to entry and progression within the industry and harassment, abuse or assault can often lead to negative consequences or even the end of careers in music for survivors while perpetrators are protected by the current systems and status quo. This panel will examine the current structures in place and how we as an industry can evolve to create more support for women and marginalised genders and victims of sexual harrassment.

5) CREATING SPACES AND OPPORTUNITIES TO CHANGE THE STATISTICS
CO-HOSTED BY KEYCHANGE
In the face of the worrying reports concerning the representation of minorities in the music industry we want to discuss possible solutions to
actively create opportunities and spaces to improve these disparities.
Despite all the conversations surrounding the statistics and the urgency to keep working towards a more inclusive environment there is still a long way to go to fully eradicate discrimination in music environments.
The industry needs to be able to guarantee spaces for people from different background and experiences to feel safe in.
What can we do to ensure healthy workspaces and tackle both the lack of opportunities and access paired with the systematic discriminations targeting minorities?
CHAIR:
Francine Gorman (Keychange)
PANELLISTS:
