Pressure - Turbo Records Party

  • SLAM (6 hour set) Tiga Boys Noize Zomby Nation (Live) Riton Sei A (Live) Thomas Von Party Simon Baker Sunday Circus TIGA Tiga is a DJ/producer who has effectively worked the underground and the mainstream with his wry brand of campy electro and stark techno. Born in Montreal, Canada, Tiga's first exposure to his future came from touring the Goa area of India with his DJ father throughout the '80s. Following in his father's footsteps, Tiga began spinning in Montreal's cooler clubs in the early '90s, bringing the acid house sound to Canada. The events continued as Tiga opened one of the earliest techno-only record stores, DNA, and he also started the Turbo label with fellow DJ Mark Dillon. He soon entered the studio (with F-comm’s Jori Hulkkonen), and yielded his own take of U2's "New Years Day," but it was their version of fellow Montreal resident Corey Hart's "Sunglasses at Night" that the duo decided to release in 2001 under the name Tiga & Zyntherius. It was a huge hit and Tiga rounded out the year with two successful mix CDs, American Gigolo and Mixed Emotions. Interviews, remixes, and touring kept the DJ busy until he helmed an edition of K7's successful mix CD series DJ Kicks. BOYS NOIZE Boys Noize, aka Alexander Ridha (born in 1982 in Hamburg, Germany), is an enigmatic electro-tech producer and DJ. As a kid, he played the piano and drums and began to purchase records from a very early age. By 16, he was already in the studio with a partner who would later go on to become D.I.M. He spent the next five years studying engineering with him and then moved to Berlin, perfecting his trade. He’s produced under the aliases of 909d1sco and Kid Alex, and in 2005, he founded his own Boysnoize Records label. As for production, Boys Noize released his debut album ‘Oi Oi Oi’ on his label in 2007, and has also remixed the likes of Bloc Party, Kaiser Chiefs, Tiga, Depeche Mode and more. ZOMBIE NATION Zombie Nation is a German techno and electro project of the Munich based DJ and producer Splank!. Until 1999 Emanuel Guenther (aka Mooner) was also involved in the project, but left, leaving Florian Senfter as the only remaining member. The track Kernkraft 400 taken from the debut EP was licensed a number of times and one remix version even entered the UK charts. Since 2001, Florian Senfter has released tracks on different labels under his new pseudonym John Starlight, but in 2002 he did not renew his contract with Gigolo Records and decided to start his own label, Dekathlon Records. In early 2005, the sublabel UKW Records was launched as a new platform for Zombie Nation and John Starlight releases. Zombie Nation is constantly touring and regularly plays his live shows around Europe and Asia. RITON Henry Smithson's career in dance music began in 1990s dance culture and the long trips to the Renaissance raves prompting him to launch his own promotions closer to his home in Newcastle. The success of the club spawned the Switch record label, whose releases eventually made the record bag of Manchester hip-hop patriarch Mark Rae, who subsequently offered Smithson a job at his Fat City record shop in Manchester and an outlet for his solo material as Riton (French slang for Henry) to Rae's accomplished Grand Central imprint. Although at first glance the brew of soul, R&B, and house of the resultant debut long-player, Beats du Jour, seemed some distance from his contemporaries at the label, with Smithson's consistently growling low end and Funkadelic keys provided the all-important link to hip-hop. SEI A Sei A is one of the most exciting producers and songwriters in the often-boring world of modern techno-house-whatever. When Tiga first sent me the album 'Editing Shadows' after finding it randomly during what he refers to as “a Beatport Walkabout”, I didn't really 'get it' on first listen. This is probably because I just scanned it on laptop speakers trying to detect hit-factor using my usually infallible A&R brainpan. Upon repeat listens, I totally fell in love with it, and that, dear reader, is a very important sign, one worthy of all the italics I can muster. It means it had something truly different, something special, something I didn't quite understand at first. THOMAS VON PARTY A&R at Turbo Recordings, Thomas Von Party keeps the Turbo family connected and ensures that a steady flow of hits keep coming. He hosts and curates the ever-growing Turbo podcast and is now at work on his first remixes and productions. A resident at 'Neon' in Montreal since its beginning in 1998, he has toured extensively with Turbo and his big brother Tiga; equally comfortable alongside hard edged electro guys like Boys Noize and Digitalism as he is tripping out with techno journeymen Konrad Black or Jori Hulkkonen. Von Party is set to break out this year as one of the resident DJ's on the Turbo world tour.
