Franz Matthews
Based out of Berlin & Paris, the franco-german producer, DJ & multi-instrumentalist always keeps one hand in the Indie Dance and Post-Disco world, while the other one is wandering in more psychedelic, cosmic and spiritual realms, blended with sonic-influences gathered from his numerous travels around the world. A winning combination that’s seen him release music on imprints such as Eskimo Recordings, Days of Being Wild, Everything Will Be OK…
After making a strong first appearance on the electronic music map by bringing out a chart topping remix for Aisha Badru (now counting over 3,5 million plays on Spotify), Matthews went on collaborating with some of the greatest minds in electronic music today, including Aera, Chaim, Local Suicide, The Organism, Moscoman & Rodion… As well at home behind the DJ decks, or live on stage where Matthews likes to combine electronic instruments while rocking his bass guitar, his heady and danceful magic brought him to play at numerous places such as Château Perché festival, about blank, Chalet, Badaboum, or the legendary Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg.
Over the last years, Franz Matthews has been digging deeper into numerous spiritual paths, leading him in wanting more and more to join the dots between electronic music and spirituality. ‘The Question‘ is the first output of this new journey, it is a spiritual and hypnotic electronic track constructed as a guided meditation, that Matthews made in collaboration with well-known french ‘happiness coach’ Jonathan Lehmann (Les Antisèches du Bonheur). But this is just the first step of his spiritual explorations in electronic music, as much more is set to be coming out in the next months, but this doesn’t stop him to continue releasing fine dark, groovy and sweaty electronic music either, as it is the case with the return of his remarked collab with friends Local Suicide, as their new single ‘Love Terrorist’ is set to be released soon on Playground Record’s 9 year birthday compilation.
And, as Matthews likes to wear many hats, when he’s not messing around with his other music projects Languages or Moon Wave, Franz Matthews is keeping himself busy managing his HIFI/LOFI Records & Publishing label, running his MOWD Production Studio where he creates music for ads and for films, and is a resident DJ at Tsugi Radio.
Semodi
Semodi is a Berlin-based multi-instrumentalist, composer and electronic artist. He toured Germanies festivals with his electronic live combo Mojoy in recent years – amongst others he played electronic live shows at Fusion Festival, Wilde Möhre and Vogelball. His sound is a mixture of deep and emotional harmonic patterns and driving peak-time beats. Though very danceable there is often a “Pop” quality in Semodi’s tracks and he likes to implement musical developments that often lead to a big break-down followed by a re-contextualized iteration of the original musical theme.
