  • Herald the trumpets because Land of Kings is back! Dalston’s annual one-wristband, multi-venue festival returns for its second year on Friday 23rd April connecting local talent, venues, food and art. This year LOK will once again throw open the doors to some of Dalston’s off-piste haunts. Hot new clubs, down at heel school halls and the many basements that make up the buzzing night culture of the area are brought together with local artists and curators... A special cabaret commission from interactive theatre company Gideon Reeling, talent showcases from Thisisnotanexit records and the Pool DJ agency, and club nights from Say Yes, Girlcore and Living in a Disco. 2010’s line-up is bursting at the seams.. From the electronic disco of Rory Phillips and Nadia Ksaiba and dirty bass music of Greco Roman Soundsystem through to the noise-rock of the Horrors and Tayo’s new night of 4/4 music. Jazz club The Vortex brings rootsy, hip-hop influenced jazz courtesy of Speakers Corner Quartet and hot new Sunday Best signings, Sound of Rum. Playing live will be the psych-pop Dignan Porch, cheerful lo-fuzz act Yuck, and Stoke Newington’s white hot electro new wavers The Detachments. 9-piece Hackney Colliery Band mine nuggets of funk, hip-hop and hi-octane rock with a few chunks of Balkan brass and ska for good measure. New for 2010, punters are invited to - literally – Dalston's most underground venue, the “Dungeon of Discoveries”. In a old second World War bunker below Dalston’s main artery, festival-goers will explore a sprawling exhibition space of interactive installations. The Rebel Dining Society are proudly partnering with LOK for a special “Royal Banquet”, serving-up a three-course dinner fit for a king in eccentric surroundings. Reservations can be made when buying advance tickets via Ticketweb. Hackney-based design studio Patternity will be curating a special UV-lit exhibition – “A Tapestry of Dalston” - at The Print House gallery, inspired by the area's historical and cultural influences.
