Dieser Gedanke wird am 29.10. im Rahmen des ersten Konzerts einer neuen Reihe für sound-basierten Brutalismus in der Kölner St. Gertrud Kirche aufgegriffen. Das vom Pritzker-Preis Gewinner Gottfried Böhm entworfene Gebäude bietet dabei den Raum für einen direkten Austausch zwischen brutalistischen Klangwelten und Architektur. Für das Konzert haben wir Puce Mary (PAN, Posh Isolation) und luxxuryproblems (SPA) eingeladen. Zudem gibt es zum ersten Mal ein Liveset von Brutalism Soundsytem. Dazu kommen raumspezifische Live Visuals von Planar und eine Soundinstallation von Kimin Han.
Puce Mary
Puce Mary ist der Soloname der in Dänemark geborenen Künstlerin Frederikke Hoffmeier. Puce Mary kann auf eine lange Karriere in der experimentellen elektronischen Musik zurückblicken und ist bekannt für intensive Live-Performances, die von fesselnden Darbietungen cineastischer Kompositionen bis hin zu harschem Noise reichen. Puce Mary wird oft mit der heutigen Generation des Industrial Noise in Verbindung gebracht, doch die jüngsten Bemühungen im Rahmen ihres Liveprojekts erforschen weite Klangfelder umfassend und entfalten eine komplexe klangliche und literarische Erzählung von Spannung und Befreiung inmitten einer beunruhigenden Dynamik von surrealer Cineastik.

luxxuryproblems veröffentlicht seine Musik seit einigen Jahren auf dem Kölner Labels SPA Recordings, das von Phillip Jondo, DJ Brom und Friday Dunard gegründet wurde. Schon sein erstes Album "inhale, aerosol, recovery (non sequitur)" war eine Demonstration dessen, was die musikalische Ästhetik des "deconstruted-club" ausmacht.
Brutalism Soundsystem
Die Brutalism Crew schließt sich für diese Veranstaltung als Brutalism Soundsystem zusammen, um sound-basierten Brutalismus im Rahmen eines neuen Livesets zu präsentieren. Nach mehr als 25 gemeinsamen Veranstaltungen, die sie als Label und Kollektiv Brutalism innerhalb von 7 Jahren durchgeführt haben, ist der Zusammenschluss als Liveact ein nächster Schritt, in ihrer künstlerischen Weiterentwicklung. Dabei steht die bewusste Auseinandersetzung mit einer brutalistischen Klangästhetik im Zentrum.

This thought is picked up for the first concert of a new series for sound-based Brutalism on 29.10. at St. Gertrud Church in Cologne. The brutalist building, designed by Pritzker-prize winning architect Gottfried Böhm, will provide the space for a direct exchange between sound-based Brutalism and brutalist architecture. For the concert we have invited Puce Mary (PAN, Posh Isolation) and luxxuryproblems (SPA). For the occasion, Brutalism Soundsystem will perform their first live set. In addition, there will be size-specific live visuals by Planar and a sound installation by Kimin Han.
Puce Mary
Puce Mary is the solo moniker of Danish-born artist Frederikke Hoffmeier. With a long career in experimental electronic music - Puce Mary has a reputation for intense live performances that span from gripping renditions of cinematic composition to the full-on fury of off-the-cuff harsh noise. Oft-identified with the now-generation of industrial noise, the project’s recent endeavours explores the field of sound more broadly than before, unfurling a complex sonic and literary narrative of tension and release, amidst disquieting dynamics and surreal cinematics.

Brutalism Soundsystem
The Brutalism crew joins forces for this event as Brutalism Soundsystem to present sound-based brutalism in a new live set. After more than 25 events together as label and collective Brutalism throughout 7 years, the merger as a live act is a next step in their artistic development. The focus is on a conscious exploration of a brutalist sound aesthetic.
