Seminal South London poet and musical storyteller, Kae Tempest, comes to HERE for a very special show. 2022 saw the release of critically acclaimed album The Line Is a Curve, which Pitchfork described as "a sentimental, prophetic, mimetic, and worldbuilding work that blends moody electronica with elements of neo-soul and grimey hip-hop." With this show we are excited to present Kae from a new angle, via the lens of the dancefloor. Early teenage years listening to jungle, then garage were formative, before heading to drum & bass raves as they grew older before a passion for the deeper and darker side of house music emerged in recent years. We are working with Kae to put together something special with an exciting array of fresh talent in support.
First up we have Shanti Celeste - a mainstay on the club scene known for high energy sets that are playful yet deep. On top of this she has a very strong back catalogue of productions on her own label Peach Discs as well as a recent release on the seminal Hessle Audio label.
Then we have Big Dyke Energy - known for raucous sets and a vital presence on the queer scene as their key Venue MOT parties have been a home for many to truly be themselves. Big Dyke Energy and Daytimers also released “Celebrating Pride: For the community, by the community” - a killer compilation featuring tracks from various queer artists, including India Jordan, No Nation, Darama, Sherelle, Manuka Honey, FAFF, Enayet, and Riva. The compilation also includes two poems from Tee and Nivetha, one about trans liberation and pride, the other about queerness in the diaspora.
