Reckless Residents

  • RECKLESS REPUBLIC is taking over Ladylux this Saturday nite for a ONE NITE ONLY showcase of some of it's resident DJs. A perfect warm up for SUNDAY SPICE with some of the DJs that formulate the familiar RECKLESS sound. For guest list action send an email before 5PM Friday: [email protected] ****************************************************************** GARRY TODD (2020 Vision, Beef, SYDNEY) http://www.myspace.com/garrytoddmusic ****************************************************************** Since leaving the UK five years ago, Garry Todd has become a pivotal figure in reforming Australia’s underground club scene. His Bread & Butter parties breathed life into the Sydney market when it was saturated with commercial mainstream electro, attracting massively respected underground artists such as Matthias Tanzmann, Dixon, Matthew Jonson, Ralph Lawson, and Joris Voorn. Garry recently played at the Playground Weekender Festival, Days Like this Festival, and recently warmed up at the Circo Loco boat party. Upcoming bookings include warming up on the house stage at creamfields alongside Joris Voorn & Dave Clarke, and Oxia at Ladylux. Aside from DJing, Garry is fast becoming one the most exciting production prospects around. He has releases due out on Beef as well as the massively respected 2020 records under alias acid Mondays, along side Alex Wolfenden and Dan Ward. Garry will be returning to Ibiza again later this year after a fruitful visit last year that saw him warm up for System of survival (DC10) at the Cocoon after-party in a disused Bull Ring. ****************************************************************** SCHWA (Beef, PRAGUE) http://www.myspace.com/djschwabeef ****************************************************************** Michal Ruzicka, aka DJ Schwa, became engaged in music thanks to his father, who is also a musician himself as well as an owner of a recording studio in Prague. At the age of 14, dance music caught his attention mainly through Radio 1. Around this time he tried to mix his first tracks (techno in particular) from cassettes and shortly afterwards he moved to the turntables and computer. In 2000 he found trance and started performing publicly. Two years later Schwa joined the group Tribal Vision and became an essential part of this promotional group. In 2002, Michal started his weekly resident nights in Prague at Cross Club and since 2003 he has been working as a sound engineer at ORM studio in Prague. In 2004 Michal, along with DJ Slater, started working on the first Czech progressive label and by the end of the year “Tribal Vision Records” was born. Tribal Vision has since then been slowly establishing itself as one of the leading labels on the progressive scene. At the end of 2005, the idea of an electro/experimental sub-label of Tribal Vision Records became reality and thus established the foundation for “BEEF Records”. Michal is also part of a new Sydney based electronic project called, “Shades of Gray”, with Nick West. Oliver Klein and Jurgen Dreissen signed 4 Shades of Gray tracks for their imprint PlusMinus records and in early 2009 Shades of Gray track Moog In The House reached number 6 on BEATPORT TECH HOUSE CHART and number 3 on DECKS.DE VINYL sales chart. Schwa’s sets are not strictly one style oriented; he combines electronic sounds that progressively flow from deeper-tribal-prog with electro and breaks elements to minimal and techhouse rhythms. Schwa has performed at huge international festivals such as “Open Air Field” (Czech Republic), “Parihaka” (New Zealand), “No Mans Land Festival” (Hungary), "Good Vibrations" (Australia), “Rainbow Serpent” and “Earthcore Carnival” (Australia) and he is frequently touring across Europe, Japan and Australia. Schwa supported Djs/projects such as: Gui Boratto, Jimpster, Minilogue, Extrawelt, D-Nox, Propellerheads, Alex Smoke, Antix, Orbital, Chemical brothers, Steve Angello, Deepchild, Kasey Taylor, Future Sounds of London, System 7, Paul Van Dyk, Ferry Corsten, Heidi, Tim Green and more. A true “artiste” in every sense of the word, he vows to take his listener on an hypnotic mind voyage through the soul embodying spirit and passion – and he always delivers... YokoO has emerged into the "lumiere" as a DJ/Producer of significance, boosting the Deep House sector of the dance music industry with his masterful mixing skills and a refined sense of tune selections, with subtle melodies that clamber atop the senses and thick instrumental textures strewn atop profound bass lines that surge powerfully through exposed bodies and corners. Leaving the strict dance floor format, his compositions are aimed at the attentive listener and broaden the electronic spectrum by suggesting an alternative to clubbing. His sound is evidently a recreation of his deeply spiritual relationship with technology and music. Aspirations arrived early on listening to artists such as Bjork, Portishead, and Massive Attack; YokoO has always been fascinated by introspective music. Now mostly inspired by talents such as Kollektiv Turmstrasse, Kadebostan, Nhar, and Cosmic Cowboys to mention some of the most significant, YokoO’s creations can be qualified as deep, groove worthy, meaningful and emotional. Aiming at achieving more intimate emotions and feelings through his creations, YokoO is persistently turned towards the inner soul. He strives to reach each individual listener in particular rather than please the crowds. With this in mind, he creatively combines his electronic sounds to create a “kaleidoscopique” voyage of a spiritual nature. His Dj sets lend themselves easily to different locations and are adaptable to various environments from small intimate spaces to festivals. He utilises sounds like the Frenchman pampers his lover, caressing his listener’s spirit with soft beautiful and hypnotic sounds lullabies alike. He never fails to deliver the drive that will bring you to climax and, with finite precision, gently lays you back down surrounded by warmth and satisfaction. YokoO’s productions are unique and unclassifiable - with such thorough attention to detail, every inch of your body and your soul will feel touched – a welcome perversion. He has made his mark on the European scene with his innovative EP's signed to a variety of record labels such as PlusMinus and Hertzlich in Germany and Kina in Italy. His first 12” released on PlusMinus Recordings has been played and charted by major players in the scene such as John Digweed, Anthony Pappa, Gorge, Brothers Vibe, Valentino Kanzyani, DJ Fex, Slam, Phonogenic, Roberto Rodriguez, Louis Osbourne and Shades Of Gray to name a few. Each of his upcoming releases are impatiently awaited. Keep an ear out, as 2010 will be an exciting year for YokoO and his “Musique Sentimentale”. ****************************************************************** MURAT KILIC (Stil Vor Talent, SYDNEY) http://www.myspace.com/muratkilic ****************************************************************** Raised in the suburbs of Sydney by strict Turkish parents on a diet of classical Turkish music played back on a Grundig reel to reel player not much smaller than a fridge. Listening to "foreign" music, least of all bangin' electronica was far from acceptable and certainly not tolerated in the Kilic household. Despite these hurdles, as avid young music lovers, Murat and his sister were able to maintain a healthy stash of records, mixtapes and music videos under the cupboard in their bedroom for many years. Maybe this was the perfect upbringing for him because this deprivation has yielded a profound and undying love for hoarding music and an ear for anything to seriously rock a dancefloor. Murat has been an avid collector of music (particularly on vinyl) since his early teens circa 1982 when he used to dodge school to sniff out rare wax at Sydney 2nd hand records stores Ashwoods, Martins and The Record Plant. Murat plays at Australia's leading tech clubs regularly. In Melbourne: Pretty Simple @ FFour, La Di Da, Darkbeat @ Brown Alley, onesixone, Revolver, Tramp and Killing Time. In Sydney: Lost Baggage, SPICE After Hour, Chinese Laundry and Likes of You. In Queensland, Murat has played the most respected nights such as Drop @ Moonbar, Logic @ Bar Soma and Elsewhere Sundays on the Gold Coast. Overseas gigs 2007-2009 include The Egg London, Follow The White Rabbit in Paris, Horst Kreuzberg Berlin, Sunrise Party Salvador-Brazil, Transit @ MV in New Caledonia, Roxy Club Prague, Love Parade Germany 2007/2008, Palais Club Munchen & Blanco in Istanbul to name but a few. Murat has a strong tech influence and this is reflected during his sets. His style is an intelligent blend of minimal tech, tech house, techno and acid. "At the end of the day, it is all about educating the crowd without boring them. Teaching people to appreciate new music whilst still getting them to dance themselves to oblivion". ****************************************************************** ROBBIE LOWE (Proton, SYDNEY) http://www.myspace.com/robbylowe ****************************************************************** Over his 15 year career behind the decks Robbie Lowe is undeniably one of Australia’s most talented and respected Deep & Tech-House to Progressive & Techno DJ’s. Robbie has been given props by some of the biggest names in dance music today, that include John Digweed, Hernan Cattaneo, James Zabiela, Way Out West & Danny Howells. If an international artist has come through Sydney over the past decade, there’s a good chance Robbie has supported them at least once. Overseas a two month stint in New York in 2004 seeing Robbie play The Sullivan Room, Le-Souk and Dumboluna Festival under the Brooklyn Bridge, while a 2006 trip to London was highlighted with playing alongside Umek at the Turnmills. In 2008 Robbie was the chosen warm-up DJ for Tiesto’s Sydney Elements Of Life Tour shows. Each show he played to a crowd of over 5000 people at Sydney’s Hordern Pavillion. Also in 2008 he took up the reins as part Label Manager & A&R for the UK-based Beat Code & Low Pressings record company’s, the latter of which has over twelve years history and lengthy back catalogue. These new roles go hand in hand with Robbie’s new production focus – His union with Sydney progressive house producer gun Matt Rowan bore fruit through 2007/08 with releases on Hussle, Outta Limits and Rococo, and he’s recently tuned in another release with Rowan for Proton Music titled ‘Ground Swell’. Through 2009 Robbie continued is high profile supports including the ‘We Love Sounds’ festival, where Robbie played in Armin van Burren’s Hordern Arena, also warming up for Danny Howell’s New Years Eve Renaissance show at The Chinese Laundry. This leads to 2010 where Robbie recently played at Sydney’s Big Day Out festival, as well support sets for Steve Lawler, John Digweed and Way Out West. The rest of the year Robbie has impressive gig schedule that includes a residency at Spice, Shrug & Sunday Sessions. Add to this a forthcoming solo EP and remix work with fellow Sydney DJ Tim Culbert (with who he also compiles the highly acclaimed ‘Colour Mix’ series), showcasing the deeper side of house music. James Zabiela “That was amazing” Robbie warming up for James @ Arq 2008 John Digweed "Thats the best platform I have had to start from all tour." Robbie warming up for John @ Home Night Club Sydney 2005. ****************************************************************** brought to you by RECKLESS REPUBLIC - a higher state
