FORMULA is a new monthly club night starting in May at Metalwerks brought to you by Joana Seguro (Lumin) and Crispin Dior (Stag and Dagger). For the first party on Friday, May 7, we’re very excited to have the debut UK show by Finnish synth-pop duo VILLA NAH, as well as live sets by Border Community’s LUKE ABBOTT and Tirk’s ARCHITEQ, plus DJ action from ALI RENAULT and JOEL MARTIN of Quiet Village, among others. With visuals provided by QUAYOLA, this first night promises to be one to remember.
Helsinki duo Villa Nah’s debut album ‘Origin’ features 12 synth-steeped odes to melancholy and romance that will enchant fans of OMD, Talk Talk, Royksopp, Boards Of Canada and the Knife. Co-produced by Jori Hulkonnen, this is timeless music where electronics and pop meet. Released in March on the Keys of Life label, the album entered the Finnish charts at number 7, and is out in the UK at the end of May. Villa Nah’s new single ‘Running On’ has been championed by Rob da Bank, Steve Lamacq and John Kennedy, and is an NME Radio single of the week.

Add to this the tantalising electronica of Luke Abbott, a huge talent soon to be unleashed on James Holden’s Border Community label, and the astonishing psychedelic disco-funk of Architeq, and this is already a killer line-up. Throw in DJ sets from Heartbreak’s electronic disco don Ali Renault and esteemed freak-beat ambassador Joel Martin of Quiet Village, and intoxicating eye-candy from graphics pioneer Quayola, and Formula is shaping up to be pretty much unmissable.
