𝙞𝙯𝙬𝙞𝙙, 𝙨𝙚𝙮 𝙢𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙘, 𝙧𝙝𝙮𝙩𝙝𝙢 𝙨𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡
Artist, producer, beat-maker, remixer, percussionist, chef and barber, curator and collector of old dusty records and exotic traditional music, that is sometimes South American, sometimes African, but always obscure, Al Dobson Jr. lives and creates in South London, Peckham to be exact, being a rising enigmatic figure on the worldwide underground music scene. Living that basement cats lifestyle, Jr. explores rhythmic expression and other abstract truth in his raw and unique productions which traverse the boundaries between hip-hop, jazz, funk and broken beat.
As one of the original members of the People’s Situation Ensemble, Jr. has been a key figure in bringing real jazz to a new wave of music lovers. Notable releases on labels 22a, Izwid, Sey Music, Jr Sounds and Rhythm Section International have also garnered support far and wide from the likes of George Clinton (Parliament, Funkadelic) to Dennis Ayler or Osunlade. Al Dobson Jr. has collaborated with Bradley Zero, Kutmah, Tenderlonious, Mo Kolours, Reginald Omas Mamode IV, Jeen Bassa, and had his music played by the legendary Gilles Peterson on BBC Radio, topping the “One to Watch” lists of Stamp the Wax and FACT Magazine.
Jr.’s productions and unique DJ sets from obscure yet dance floor friendly grooves & unreleased dubplates to classic jazz & funk have made him heavily sought after, now a line-up stalwart of Boiler Room and festivals such as Dimensions, Worldwide, Gottwood or Excursion and the institution that is London’s Jazz Cafe. Since stepping on the scene in 2013, he has quietly established himself as one of the UK’s most promising underground producers.
Hosts and residents, KIDAHM and CEL VISĂTOR, along with AL DOBSON JR, promise an evening full of positive vibrations and energy filled dance moves, an evolving journey of thought and senses, expanding their love-of-music sound over the hungry ears and excited bodies.
