When we received our next date for Social Studies at Good Life, we knew it would be around the party’s 11-year anniversary, but we had no idea it would fall on the very day. On December 2, 2011, Social Studies had its first party with guest Runaway (Jacques Renault and Marcos Cabral).
We let our 10-year in 2021 pass quietly—we had sea legs after returning from nightlife lockdown just two months prior. But we think any number of years devoted to promoting underground culture, community, and history is something to dance about.
So, on Friday, December 2, 2022, in the same basement we’ve called home for 11 years, we’ll commemorate the date with something special—a lineup that feels like A Very Social Studies event. We’re honored to have two New York DJs whose reach stretches wide across the city. DJ Shannon, an impressively skilled world-traveling DJ, radio host, and writer, and Nick Boyd, the Sorry Records label boss, fun-loving party rocker, and dance music devotee promise to attune their own exuberance and dance-focused genre-spanning sounds for the night. Both DJs’ energy courses not only through the tracks they deliver from behind the decks but how they revere the club and dance floor’s ability to bridge communities, whether globally or locally.
We agree there’s magic that happens when you put people on a dance floor. We hope some of you have felt a sparkle on our floor at some point in the last 11 years (we know we do every time we see you), and we welcome those making new memories with us.
