  • Graz festival Elevate brings together cutting edge music, art and political discourse.
  • The Elevate Festival returns to spring after two summer editions. From 1 to 5 March, the 19th edition of the festival will take place in Graz under the title "(Unlikely) Alliances" and will once again transform the city into a hotspot for young, contemporary festival culture. Alongside contemporary art and a stimulating and challenging discourse programme, a mix of concerts and club music at a wide variety of venues will once again be at the heart of the festival's activities. Among the first programmatic music highlights are the Italian synthesizer luminary Caterina Barbieri, who will make up for her long-awaited Graz concert in 2023, the US post-industrial cult act Pharmakon as well as the indie psychedelic duo Panda Bear & Sonic Boom and Brainfeeder figurehead The Gaslamp Killer. He used this phrase to describe the idea, which has been elaborated many times since, that an invasion by extraterrestrial powers would be needed to unify humanity in view of its numerous cultural differences. But how much common ground is needed for the common cause and which boundaries remain unbridgeable? What invisible or even unholy alliances exist? The discourse programme of the 2023 festival will explore these major questions. A wide variety of researchers, activists and journalists will meet musicians and artists at Elevate in Graz to examine questions about the future in a practical way. The spheres covered by the four theme days range from geopolitics to psychology and behavioural research, from activism to artistic practice, digital issues, network policy and climate protection.
