CO-OP PRESENTS A 4 HOUR SET FROM HARRI (SUB CLUB/UNDER THE SHADE – GLASGOW), IN SYDNEY AND AUSTRALIA FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER, ON SATURDAY 5TH JUNE FOR CO-OP’S FIRST BIRTHDAY AT A SECRET INNER CITY VENUE

Was it really a year ago that CO-OP descended on La Campana for a launch party starring (in no particular order) our resident DJs, a male stripper, a diminutive balding Spaniard with a ridiculously fitting name, a secret lift, Motorcitysoul and The Revenge? Well, sadly for those not wishing their lives away, yes. Agreed, its a worry how time flies, but we’d like to think that we’ve at least attempted to make the most of our first 12 months in business, forcibly entering some of Sydney’s more intimate dancing spaces armed with our take on deep Disco and deeper House musicality.
Still only 5 parties young (6 including our recent sojourn on the high seas), we’ve already CO-OP’ted some of the planet’s finest and freshest DJ and producer talent to join us – in addition to the aforementioned opening night think Vincenzo, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Sasse, Dave DK, John Daly and Mark E. All but one of this international roll call had ever visited these shores before getting amongst it (often for 4 or 5 hours) at one of our after dark adventures – not because we enjoy spending money on flights, but because we think they deserved to be heard. We love what these people do, and in keeping with the sharing nature of any CO-Operative, we thought others might do as well. So there.
Not that its been easy mind – we’ve had to contend with, amongst other things, a headliner’s record bag locked in hotel storage when it should have been with him at the party and a venue’s sound-system still suffering rogue water damage when the doors should have been open. Philosophically speaking, these things are sent to test us and no doubt there’ll be more to come, but hopefully Sydney will continue to enjoy our efforts for another year. If it ceases to, well, we’ll just crawl back under the rock from whence we came.
But less talk about what has gone before and more about what comes next – our first birthday party, a night for celebration, participation and, with any luck, some unadulterated musical masturbation. To help us blow out the solitary candle, and hopefully play some records, we’ve invited the legend (in this rare case the title is deserved) that is Harri from Glasgow’s Sub Club to join us for the evening of Saturday 5th June. Mr Harrigan will be digging and wigging for a set of at least 4 hours on the night, showcasing the sounds that have made him one of the world’s most revered selectors and a true master in the art of the Disc Jockey. Hell, he’s been a resident at the Sub Club (which was recently voted in the top 15 clubs in the world by both Resident Advisor and DJ Magazine) for over 20 years, he should know what he’s doing by now. From classic Disco to glimmering Techno via House that reminds you why you got into all this in the first place, come expecting nothing but an odyssey of all that is great about dance music today (and a piss up, obviously). Oh, and a few exclusive fruits of his labours with production partner Graeme Clarke (AKA The Revenge) may well also be thrown into the audio blender at some stage – they are currently riding high on the Juno download charts under their Burnt Island Casuals moniker.
As June’s CO-OP is something of a special occasion, we’re taking things out of the club and into a slightly different space, primarily so that the CO-Operative can indulge in the well documented delights of cheap alcohol and unabashed nonsense. We’ll bring the DJs, the Funktion-One sound-system and the glitter-balls and you bring the drinks, the dreams and the dance. Details of the venue will be announced via that Facebook thing near the date of the party so seek out our group if you haven’t already done so.
Its our party and we’ll cry if we want to, but you don’t have to – strictly limited tickets can be secured from the lovely people at Resident Advisor or direct from CO-OP (find us on Facebook for the hook up), but please bear in mind that we’re keeping things up-close-and-personal for this one so there will only be 150 tickets available to buy.

HARRI (SUB CLUB/UNDER THE SHADE – GLASGOW)
James ‘Harri’ Harrigan is synonymous with Glasgow’s vibrant House scene. His record-breaking (and ongoing) 20 year residency at the Sub Club was the foundation for it’s growth into one of the UK’s premier dance music venues (in the past couple of years it has been voted Resident Advisor’s #10 and DJ Magazine’s #14 in their respective ‘World’s Top Clubs’ polls).
In the early 90s Harri teamed up with Stuart McMillan and Orde Meikle of Slam and Soma, and for 4 years they spun their sonic magic at the Sub Club on Saturdays. However, the departure of Slam from the Sub saw Harri join forces with one of Glasgow’s most talented DJs, Domenic Cappello (20/20 Vision/Soma) and together they created Subculture, the club’s flagship Saturday night. 14 years on Subculture with Harri and Domenic at the helm is possibly the longest running weekly House night in the UK (if not anywhere), having hosted the cream of international DJs and artists and with a formidable reputation as one of the best and most credible House parties in the world.
Creating and recording music under aliases including the Daddy’s Favourite, the Papa Washington Trio and H Foundation, as well as under his own name, Harri has showcased his extraordinary mixing and production skills. Daddy’s Favourite’s ‘I Feel Good Things For You’ propelled Harri into the charts and is now a standard on many House compilations. H Foundation’s ‘Liaka’ and the Papa Washington Trio’s ‘Calling All Dancers’ also found considerable favour with DJs and music lovers, while his own Tax Discs label has scored many hype chart hits over the years.
Harri’s 5 year London residency with Kenny Hawkes at Plastic People was regarded as one of the best House nights of the 90s and outside of the UK Harri regularly travels to Europe, the USA, Asia and beyond, where his take on and knowledge of electronic music has gained wide acclaim.
Currently Harri is working on new material with his good friend Graeme Clark (AKA Future Disco ringleader The Revenge) as part of their Harri & The Revenge and Burnt Island Casuals projects for labels including Jisco and Five20East. The pair have previously released material through Nordic Trax, Deep Freeze and Bosh, and are already riding high this year with tracks topping the Juno download charts. He has also recently issued a collection of edits for Glasgow-based L.E.S.S. Productions and is put the finishing touches to more production output for 2010, for labels such as Soma and Darkroom Dubs.
