Altær kicks off 2023 with a headlining set from UK duo SLAM. Tireless organizers and fearless DJs, the pair is renowned for their high energy, six deck sets: wild, livewire rides over techno’s most exciting peaks. As the organizers of SLAM Radio and Soma Records, their curation is some of the best in the game. They’ve worked with everyone from Daft Punk to Deepchord, always showing a keen ear for electronic music’s most vital expressions. Germany’s Denise Rabe is an excellent match. She first made her name in 2015 with the release of her debut EP on Mutewax, quickly followed by standout records on Arts Collective. Unfailingly energetic, Rabe has become an international mainstay on the techno circuit. Altær founder Auspex opens it up. His uniquely ritualistic, darkly throbbing sound weaves in touches of industrial for an incantatory, near-spiritual experience of power and submission.
STUDIO balances the intensity with an unbeatable lineup. Colombian mainstay Leeon is one of his county’s most consistent talents. An unwavering presence over the last decade and change, the Bogota resident has been a regular presence on the European circuit and has made close connections with the NY community. It’s easy to see why: his sound stretches from warm, psychedelic spaciousness to thrilling, spine-tingling techno and beyond. Recent productions have seen him in a bumping mood, but with a dark undercurrent. He meets up with fellow traveler Jason Kendig. The Honey Soundsystem co-founder is beloved for his wide-ranging approach to house sounds, with a style that bends the rules to suit his needs. A true master, Kendig’s sets are rich tapestries that are soaked in syrupy soul and euphoric strangeness. The bill is completed by none other than Analog Soul. NY’ers will need no introduction, as the pair has been an unmissable force in the city for years. Whether cruising at high velocity with some of the deepest Detroit techno or foregrounding a more sumptuous NY house sound, Analog Soul invariably shines, displaying a fluency and authority that ignites the dancefloor.
