When we first decided to throw a party in The White Hotel’s long forgotten predecessor, The Bunker, having Steevio & Suzybee come to play seemed like a pipe dream. So we can’t understate how ridiculously happy we are to say that at long last (7 years later!) it's on. Joined by our resident amphibian, Jorg Kuning and easily the most exciting DJ we’ve come across in recent years - Sybil.
Steevio & Suzybee
The music that Steevio has produced over the last 20 years taps directly into the ancient vein of ritualistic dancing from time immemorial. His sound is fiercely unique - his records fly out of the club milieu like shimmering beams of light. Behind a modular behemoth, Steevio creates a freeform tapestry of improvised sonic magic. For us, it is deeply psychedelic music in the purest sense; more akin to the chaotic energy of free jazz than any of the tired tropes of dance music. But it is also dance music in the purest sense, fluid, deep, polyrhythmic and absolutely, unmistakably, thunderously banging. Performing alongside Steevio is his partner and AV artist Suzybee. Suzybee’s playful, hand drawn visual projections react and emerge in perfect harmony to Steevio’s music. Together they run the inimitable Freerotation, a music and arts festival born out of the 90’s free party movement. Regulars/residents there include Duckett, Jane Fitz, Surgeon, Hessle, Shackleton etc.
Jorg Kuning
We couldn’t ask Steevio & Suzybee to come and play without calling upon the services of our own modular master, Jorg Kuning. Jorg has been performing his live sets at Bakk Heia since its inception. His signature sound of organic, subaquatic, fluid and playful dance music continues to be a huge source of inspiration to us. His latest EP, released on Wisdom Teeth, is a testament to his years of dedication and graft. We strongly believe Jorg’s music to be amongst the most innovative and unique around today, but we’re fairly sure we don’t need to tell you that.
Sybil
Closing out the party is an artist we are extremely excited to be hosting for her first set at The White Hotel. In amongst the deluge of online radio and Soundcloud mixes it is rare that we hear a contemporary DJ that completely blows our mind. Sybil has an otherworldly approach to the craft, her sets flowing seamlessly with psychedelic depth, cerebral euphoria and pure wormhole mysticism. Expect a masterclass in brain melting sorcery.
Bitzer Mal & schuttle
On hand to welcome you in and help stir the pot are Bakk Heia’s long serving residents. They will be bringing their finest crunchy hammers, sludgy movers and bliss givers to aid your ascension.
