DETOUR pres. Sybil Jason, KHA' DJ & Naeem

  • For the month of February DETOUR is excited to host the Hot Mass debuts of NYC’s Sybil Jason and local Kha’DJ. Versatility is the theme of the night and both DJs pull from a wide range of genres and grooves in their sets! Mixes and productions by each have been turning heads towards the booth, the radio and catching ears in the U.S. and beyond! Sybil Jason: Whether it is over the airwaves or in the club, Haitian-American DJ Sybil Jason’s versatile style has found her success playing across the U.S. and Europe. A childhood love of Radio, found Jason listening to tri-state area stations like Hot 97 and KissFM, introducing her to RnB/ Hip-hop. With the rise of blog culture/ social media in the early aughts she found her way to genres like indie, post punk, new wave, electro and more. But, it was checking out late night pre-club mixes on radio stations and collecting tapes/CDs and Vinyl during her adolescent & teenage years that ultimately brought her to club music. However it wasn’t until early 2004 when a friend, familiar with her music taste encouraged her to burn some CDs and try her hand at DJing in a LES club, that she entered the DJ booth. More than 2 years later with the desire to archive a recent DJ set, Jason began the blog FARCED that would go on to be her most enduring project. FARCED would become the home to the plethora of physical mixtapes she would mail to friends and online only mixes. She would go on to do FARCED on East Village Radio, Berlin Community Radio, Dublab BCN, Rinse France and most recently The Lot Radio, also releasing mixtapes and merchandise via FARCED. After roughly a decade living and DJing in NYC, Jason moved to Europe for nearly 5 years. First living in Berlin, then moving to Barcelona and ultimately Paris. While abroad, she played some of the best EU clubs, having gigs at places like De School, Panorama Bar, Tresor, Lux Fragil, Razzamatazz and more. Back stateside since 2019, Jason often plays at NYC clubs like Bossa Nova Civic Club, Good Room and Elsewhere and most recently made a BASEMENT debut to kick off 2023. She expertly slides from one sound to the next without hesitation during her sets, often drawing from her Haitian roots, blending Haitian edits in and out of her eclectic selections. Kha'DJ: Warming up the floor ahead Jason is Khadijat Yussuff aka Kha'DJ. The Yoruba-American DJ is also a multi-disciplinary artist that works both in the visual and audio realms. 3D modeling and coding for game design, in addition to music production/ performance are just a few of the disciplines they work in. We’ve had our ears tuned to the frequency of Kha’DJs mixes, sets and productions for the past 2 years. Initially checking out their Bridge Theory mix series on MSYH.FM, their solo productions on bandcamp in addition to seeing them live at Barrel and flow in 2021 plus for the release party of their EP, As Above... DETOUR resident Naeem rounds out the line-up to cover the interstitials of the night. Come early stay late and we hope to see you on the dance floor! IMPORTANT NOTE: We're still finalizing our new ticketing platform, so keep watch here as things come together. If we aren't ready yet, we'll do cash walk-up again – $20 before midnight, $25 after.
