Montreal: Thursday, May 6, 2010 – To kick off its second decade, MUTEK couldn’t be more proud to announce the presentation of its very first free outdoor concert, under the open night sky and right in the heart of downtown Montreal! On Saturday, June 5th at 9pm, the Place des Festivals in the Quartier des Spectacles will come alive with the indelible Latin rhythms of Señor Coconut & His Orchestra, featuring Argenis Brito in a North American Exclusive performance. Without a doubt, this will be one of those memorable milestones in the festival’s unfolding history,
Señor Coconut is but one of the many faces of legendary German producer Uwe Schmidt, one of the world’s most respected electronic musicians and a longtime acolyte of the MUTEK Festival. World-renowned for his stunning 2000 album El Baile Alemán, which saw him rendering nine classic Kraftwerk singles in Latin styles such as the Cha-Cha-Cha, Merengue, and Cumbia, Señor Coconut & His Orchestra have since become a very popular live act featuring nearly a dozen musicians and a mastery of crowd-pleasing Electrolatino music. Still reproducing electro-pop hits in a Latin style, the 2008 album Around The World delivered covers of Daft Punk, Eurythmics, Prince and others.
Any way you look at it, Montreal is in for a one-of-a-kind treat when worlds collide on this hot summer night! Opening the concert, three veterans of the Montreal music scene – Jean-Phi Goncalves (percussionist with Beast and Plaster), Alex McMahon (Plaster), J-F Lemieux and Martin Lizotte – join forces as LE GOLDEN. (formerly known as Jedi Electro)
MUTEK 2010 takes place in Montreal from June 2nd to June 6th, 2010 and will feature 150 national and international artists.
