Material presents the 2nd Sound State party at the Post. Just 15 minutes from downtown, the Post boasts one of the best systems in the Midwest.
Sound State is a monthly party dedicated to dancing through musical exploration & experimentation. Selecting djs who are pushing the tradition forward in their own way, Material wants to create another space in Chicago for dancers and music lovers to come together in a safe and fun environment. Any unsafe or violent behavior towards another person based on race, gender, ethnicity, orientation, religion, disability or any other reason will result in removal. Sound state runs 9-5am with doors at 8.
Joining Material at this second installment of Sound State is Detroit’s rising star Deon Jamar and Cleveland’s ardent crate digger Clubby the Disco Baller. Doors at 8, music at 9.
Deon is a Detroit native whose roots stem from the crates of family. Growing up hearing many different styles of music in the household is the inspiration behind his range of selection. Inspired by everything from jazz, funk, & more modern black dance music forms like hip-hop/r&b, house, techno, & brokenbeat.
His career in Detroit began as a resident DJ & organizer or the monthly hip-hop showcase “Bluecollar Gentlemen”.
At the same time, Deon started working alongside Theo Parrish & Sound Signature, helping organize and promote the Music Gallery party series.
Spending years consuming & working in Detroit’s underground helped inform his own more dance floor/community oriented event, “Healin Session” as well as the immersive music & art experience, “Black Music.”
Material will also welcome Cleveland’s Clubby the Disco Baller. Clubby spent a formative period of his musical development as a fly on the wall of Chicago’s dance scene. Since returning to Ohio he’s balanced efforts between sourcing great electronic records and bringing a steady stream of DJs from the midwest to Cleveland for intimate parties across the city spreading underground sounds one event at a time.
Material is a Chicago based selector deeply influenced by the underground music scene in Chicago. Bringing together disco, world music, early house & modern productions, they attempt to create sounds that help bring people together, move, and feel relief from the isolation & alienation of capitalism.
Hosting Sound State is Chicago’s favorite, the Disko Auntee, Kween Kee. Kween Kee is a party veteran & experienced host. She has hosted and promoted for the likes of Darryn Jones, Rahaan, Zernell, Tim Zawada, Dave Maze, & Brian Reeves!
