DnB & Dubstep Dresscode: smart casual, no shorts sorry guys ShockOne & Phetsta aka Karl Thomas & Whetu Kay are two of Australia's most in demand Drum & Bass production and deejay duo's. Signed to Futurebound's Viper Recordings and Simon Bassline Smith's Technique Recordings respectively, they have upped the ante with every track they have released. Drawing on an eclectic range of influences and fusing them with cutting edge Drum & Bass production, ShockOne & Phetsta have developed their own unmistakable sound. As solo artists both ShockOne & Phetsta are already well established within the dance music world. In 2007 Phetsta topped the UK Drum & Bass charts with his acclaimed Congo EP. In 2009 ShockOne released his self titled EP which topped the D&B and Dubstep charts for well over a month. The lead single Polygon blitzed Triple J's Super Request for several weeks and was touted by Annie Mac as "The biggest Drum & Bass tune out". Between them they have dominated the Best Producer, Best Local Tune, and Best Drum & Bass categories at the Perth Dance Music Awards for the past four years. ShockOne & Phetsta's collaborations Cyclones & The Sun 2009 gained air play on BBC's Radio 1 and high rotation on Triple J, both topping Super Request. They also released a full length video clip for The Sun 2009 which landed television support from ABC Australia's Rage. Never easily satisfied, they both grew beards and planned their next move. In late 2009 ShockOne & Phetsta decided to take things further by debuting a live audio visual / deejay hybrid show. "We got so bored with generic deejaying, we can mix a Drum & Bass set without even thinking about it. We started playing on three decks, then four. We bought in an extra mixer. We still weren't satisfied!" said ShockOne. "We had to switch things up." "We've always done things a little different from the majority of Drum & Bass artists," Phetsta says. "We want to push things as far as possible in every direction be it audio or visual. We came up with this insane idea of editing archives of video and animation and then triggering them live, while mixing on four decks back to back through two mixers. It's the best idea we've ever had but also the most insane." The boys locked down in their studio in an industrial area of Perth splicing and dicing tour footage, original animation and classic pop culture references . After many sleepless nights ShockOne & Phetsta finally unveiled their live show in the form of a three hour showcase at Shape Nightclub in Perth, spanning the sounds of Drum & Bass, Dubstep and Electro House. With confidence in their new stage show, Shock-Phet turned to launching the official video clip for The Sun 2009 in Perth and Home Bake in Sydney. ShockOne & Phetsta are now set to take their four deck, two mixer live AV show on the road, heading to New Zealand with Matrix & Futurebound and touring nation wide within Australia.
