MISKATE [Foundsound/Philadelphia]
miskate is kate iwanowicz. originally a pittsburgh dj, she held down various residencies in that area. she received a degree in anthropology (and a minor in music) at the university of pittsburgh - where she also participated in a gamelan ensemble. her interests in sound began at a young age - first playing violin, then piano, then guitar, and now sample-based electronic music. she has a breathtaking gift for creating obscure dance music with a deep-seated undertone of abstracted emotions - constructed with sounds of everyday life that range from her own singing voice to random found sounds.
after relocating to philadelphia in 2001, she teamed up with sean o'neal (a.k.a. someone else) and cyhl takerkart (a.k.a.fusiphorm) and launched the foundsoud label. her production debut came in may 2004 with the release of rip it cookie muenster ep. since then, miskate hammered out a plentitude of eps and remixes for foundsound, microcosm, alphahouse, roman-photo, karloff, wit, einmaleins and zero g. miskate continues to tour regularly playing live all over the world - predominantly throughout the majority of cities and countries in north america and europe.
