When Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24th, the thriving electronic scene changed overnight. Producers, DJs, club owners, staff, promoters and curators became soldiers, volunteers and refugees.
Dance floors turned into volunteer centres, medical training facilities, coordination headquarters and ammunition factories.
Ukraine: Nightlife in Resistance, will tell six unique stories of various industry figures from different parts of the country, uncovering the price they’ve paid for this life- changing transformation.
The screening will feature a live Q+A with the film’s protagonists, moderated by RA's deputy editor Carlos Hawthorn.
Entry is free, and donations are optional. All money raised will be distributed between Insight NGO, and World Central Kitchen.
Insight NGO
Insight NGO has been providing legal, psychological, and social assistance to the Ukrainian LGBTQI+ community for over a decade. Since the Russian invasion, the charity has been raising money to help provide LGBTQI+ people with temporary housing, food, medicines, and relocation to safer areas.
World Central Kitchen
In the early months of the invasion, World Central Kitchen served millions of meals to Ukrainian families fleeing the conflict. The charity is now supporting frontline communities in eastern and southern Ukraine where the need for food is urgent.
