Scene -س- is a community project focusing on showcasing renowned and upcoming artists from the Arab world bringing forward their distinctive sounds and talent alongside our beloved local artists.
ZULI
Ahmed El Ghazoly aka ZULI is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, and sound artist from Cairo, Egypt. Internationally, ZULI is best known for his releases on Lee Gamble’s UIQ – which included a string of EPs as well as his debut LP Terminal, an album that highlighted the depth in his productions, as he simultaneously combines experimentations in rap/hip-hop with music for listening as well as the dancefloor. The Italian Haunter Records also saw the release of the infamous Trigger Finger EP which went on to be remixed by the likes of TSVI, AYA, Acre and more. ZULI together with Rama launched the first ‘irsh’ compilation in September 2020 which highlighted talent from Cairo and the Middle East. ZULI’s music garners support all over the board ranging from the likes of Aphex Twin and Autechre, to Ben UFO and Bradley Zero, even Richie Hawtin through its wide-ranging sound. He joined the NTS Radio roster in 2016 with a monthly show that includes a dedicated hour to guest appearances from up-and-coming DJs and ones he meets touring around the world. Most recently ZULI released a follow up EP to his acclaimed Terminal LP and has many exciting projects in the works including a new live AV performance with Omar El Sadek aka Qow.
MARWA BELHAJ YOUSSEF
Marwa Belhaj Youssef is a Tunisia-based DJ. Her mixes are mental selections highlighting the beauty and violence of sounds. She is a resident artist at Movement Radio (Athens). She works as a booker agent at LYL Radio where her personal goal is to support Arab artists. Marwa has been invited a number of times to share her favorite sounds on NTS Radio, Noods Radio, Lyl Radio, Intergalactic FM, Radio Al Hara, Root Radio and Radio Flouka.
BIG MURK
Big Murk is an independent Palestinian-Jordanian producer and drummer born in 2001 and currently based in Amman, specializing in UK grime and hip-hop’s subgenres. His style in beat-making is very centered around heavy swinging drums and sloppy yet calculated basslines, always aiming to make his beats as bouncy and neck-snapping as possible. Murk has collaborated with numerous big names in the local rap and electronic scene as well as underground legends, he has also landed placements with a handful of well-established UK artists and has released his solo project “El Shmurk EP” in October 2020. Besides production, Murk is also an active DJ, his sets consist of chops and blends merging grime, UK left-field bass, jungle, electro, and GQOM, regularly incorporating his own productions into his DJ sets, he has performed DJ and hybrid live sets in venues/events such as PTX Athens (Exist Festival, Colour Factory London (Middle of Nowhere), Cairo (Jelly Zone), Panke Culture Berlin (Takseer).
