We are back at Mensabar for our next Rempart Rave on the 22 of April! This time we’ve invited NVST and KA-RABA, two awe-inspiring DJs we’ve been following over the last year since hearing them play at Grrrnd Zero in Lyon and Elysia in Basel.
As usual some of our crew residents will be playing as well, with montage on opening duties while PACE99 and schnucki47 b2b TX4 take over the second floor.
This time we are opening our doors at 21:00 for a chilled out pre-session on our second floor with cheap drinks, couches, and a set by abelian to move into the night. Regular club programming starts at 22:30.
The style of producer and DJ NVST (Lausanne) not only defies any borders, she also continues to undermine our pre-conceptions by moving and mixing smoothly between fast and raw Bass-influenced broken rhythms and experimental technoid soundscapes, always keeping her safe distance to the expected and predictable.
With origins in the Swiss illegal party scene, she’s kept away from any commercial approaches while keeping up her activism for the development and preservation of unconventional electronic music in Switzerland and beyond. She is not only an active member of the Female:Pressure family, but together with Warzou also co-runs the Lyon-based imprint Big Science Records, on which she released her debut album „Drum in the Bass of Attention“ in 2022. Spreading her unique taste and mixing style as a resident on Rinse FM and LYL Radio she is steadily moving forward and developing her sound, underlined by her newest release with collaborator Théo Muller as the eclectic band-project „The Drift Institute“ on Pensaments Sònics.
KA-RABA is an active and dedicated member of the local underground community in Basel, both as DJ and as part of OKRA, a collective committed to create inclusive, non-discriminatory party-spaces and provide a platform for BPoC artists in Basel’s nightlife. She also hosts a bimonthly radio show together with Esengo at the independent TRNST Radio in Fribourg, connecting local artists and communities from across Switzerland through music.
Her sets revolve around Afrocentric sonics and rhythms in the context of current club music, taking us on a musical trip through the deep South and the African diaspora. After hearing her powerful closing at Elysia last fall we just knew we had to invite her to Freiburg and are glad to finally make it work!
