On April 27th KALLIDA Festival and misery are joined by a host of incredible DJs from Kampala and London to raise funds and to support at risk individuals in the LGBTQ+ community in Uganda. ANTI-MASS founder Authentically Plastic, Queer Bruk’s Donnie Sunshine, Joe Cotch, Nowt, Critical Youth’s DJ Mapengo and KALLIDA DJs are on hand, with two incredible headliners to be announced. It’s going down at Unit 58 in Tottenham from 7pm till late.
Money raised will go directly to those affected by a new bill passed in Uganda imposing the death penalty for homosexuality. The funds will go towards: bail for LGBTQ+ people imprisoned, emergency accommodation costs, legal and medical fees, and visa and transportation costs for those leaving the country.
In the run up to the bill’s passing, a new wave of anti-gay animus has taken hold. In February alone more than 110 LGBTQ+ Ugandans reported incidents including arrests, sexual violence, evictions and public undressing to advocacy group SMUG. The bill further puts LGBTQ people at risk by threatening landlords who rent to them with imprisonment.
Tickets are on sale on RA, who are generously donating their booking fees to the cause. Low income tickets are available as well as Donation only (no ticket) options. Please pay what you can, this is an urgent situation and more people need help every day.
