  • On Saturday, July 3rd 2010, Sequential Circus returns for the seventh iteration. Bring your dancing shoes for Vancouver's foremost live electronic performance showcase! Sequential Circus is an ongoing music event series featuring an ever-changing lineup of live performance (live-pa) electronic music acts, both local and imported talent, with a focus on cutting edge sound and visual technologies. Do not confuse this with a DJ event - the dancefloor will be jumping, but all the music at Sequential Circus is composed and performed live by the original artists! Dark Arps (London, UK) http://www.soundcloud.com/dark-arps Genre: Techno, Progressive House, Breaks Back in Canada for the first time in 19 years, Dark Arps is Jon Bierman's latest solo project. Synths, sampled instrumental melodies, warped tonal textures and atmospheres are supported by incessantly danceable beats and infectious basslines. Constantly musical, evolving, progressing, segueing, modulating and jumping, sometimes dark, and yet also positive and upbeat without being saccharine, it's music for the head, the heart, and most importantly, the feet. Beats, synths, atmospheres and melodies are triggered, mixed and effected on-the-fly using Ableton Live and a selection of MIDI controllers and hardware synths. Tracks evolve, break down and crescendo organically. Danceable grooves are mandatory and ever-present and no two sets are ever the same. - Jeff Griffiths (Vancouver, BC) http://canuckistani.ca/ Genre: Techno/House/Breaks Jeff Griffiths has been twiddling knobs both real and virtual on and off since he quit the rock scene in Calgary 15 years ago and started listening to FSOL 12 hours a day. A bit of a pioneer in Vancouver for showing up to do Live PA shows with just a laptop, Jeff now has a few random bits of gear being sequenced (or in some cases sequencing themselves). Think house, techno and warm baths of filtered bubbling noise patched together like a collage. ;) - Jonnay (Calgary, Alberta) http://www.jonnay.net/ Genre: Acid/Jungle/Drum&Bass Jonnay is a one-man, laptop-free live PA and has been writing music since '96, and performing since '97. His performance stylings range from Acid Techno to Drum and Bass and even Dark Jungle, but in the studio he will just write music he likes. This is Jonnay's second performance at Sequential Circus, performing also in 2008 for Sequential Circus 3. Jonnay is currently Unsigned and Unaligned. - Kir Mokum (Vancouver, BC) http://www.shahdjs.com/ Genre: Deep End Drum&Bass Kir Mokum's style, skill and musical maturity are beyond description. He is a DnB wizard and knows how to create a sophisticated vibe combining rare, classic, and avante garde tracks. Also having a mind behind production, his tunes portray the depth of his musical understanding. His signature style always leaves a long lasting taste and impression on those that hear him...one that has come to influence the way people look at drum and bass, and appreciate it's many faces, textures and intricacies. After hearing KIR MOKUM you will feel like you've just been enlightened. - The Square Root of Evil (Vancouver, BC) http://www.thesquarerootofevil.com/ Genre: Chiptune/Breakcore The Square Root of Evil (Jen Pearson) has been surrounded by musicians her entire life. It was only natural that as soon as computers were able to keep up with her lightning fast compositional skills, she would use them to translate the thetas and gammas of her weirdo brainwaves into beats and bleeps of dance music. She's been featured on over half a dozen compilations on US, UK & Canadian labels, and has released two EPs, "Chirping Data" out on Belladonna (now defunct), and "Killerbytes" which can be downloaded from Xynthetic. She represented Vancouver in the 2006 North American Laptop Battle Championship in Seattle after making her way to the top in her hometown, has played countless live shows in Vancouver and Europe, and will be playing Sequential Circus fresh from her set at Mutek 2010. Her work has been described as everything from IDM, Techno, 8-bit, Drum 'n Bass, Glitch & Jungle, as the sub-sub-sub genres continue to split further & further... leaning towards frantic & somewhat complex rhythms made with crunchy low-fi sounds, making people smile while they dance. - Wesley Dysart (Atlanta, Georgia) http://www.wesleydysart.com/ Genre: Progressive House/Tech, Breaks Drawing influence from a variety of styles Wesley brings a compelling, nuanced sound based on solid rhythms & intelligent melodies. As a multi-instrumentalist who has been producing & performing for over a decade his productions range from floor stomping progressive tech to inspired compositions influenced by classical, rock and metal. Wesley's live performances surge with dynamic sound-scapes of intelligent breaks and glass shattering house beats fueled by on-the-fly remixes of his extensive and electrifying original catalog. Not to be missed!
