  • Djs: !!!!!MARTIN BEUME LIVE!!!! (Connasseur, substatic) http://www.myspace.com/goldenready A serious career in producing electronic music almost always starts in a club: everyone knows the story of his first night out at some legendary place, sometimes behind the turntables, more often than not in front of them. Everybody remembers how this sound hit him for the first time, how the doors to the paradise of the steady bassdrum opened. The hero of our story found its initiation at Aufschwung Ost, famous predecessor to the fabulous Stammheim Kassel, which may be defunct but still resides as referential limbo in the hearts of many. However, music hasn't been a stranger for the then 16 years old Martin: already the first portable radio was manipulated for the first steps towards sampling, the belt-driven turntables were scratched to death and the amiga 500 gobbed primal hip hop beats. Although nothing of this sounded like Public Enemy or A Tribe Called Quest it still sufficed to make the young apprentice's mouth water. Then Techno came along with its massive impact, followed by the first shaky dj gig in front of a real crowd at Aufschwung Ost, the first Akai sampler, the first Atari computer, the first field recording, the first loops on 123 BPM, finally the movement to Cologne, being a techno stronghold back then. It's a near classic biography for Martin Beume who has grown to become one respected producer and DJ, but without the attitude. He prefers to stay in the background and lets the music take the center stage. But he who inhales the groove has to exhale at some point too, so Martin's first demo tracks landed at Sub Static, where he released two EP's under his monicker Golden Red. Both featured chopped up funk with a warm-hearted flavour and rank amongst the classics of the label. With Pawas, Martin found a kindred spirit to produce some great tracks for Adam Kroll's Squonk outlet or the people at Brut. That's also the point where Martin found the guts to embark on a solo career under his civic name, which has been a wise decision as the first 12“ on Outils Du Connaisseur arrestingly shows.
