Apgrade is sliding into the summer with some of the most exciting programming the city has seen in a while.
With productions of unrivaled quality, Pearson Sound has been at the top of the game for well over a decade now. The Hessle Audio boss is joined by Nick León, a poster boy for Miami's evolving, Latin-inflected club sound who captured the electronic music zeitgeist in 2022, co-producing one of the year's biggest tracks.
Add the open-air venue situated at the base of the Belgrade medieval fortress Kalemegdan into the mix and you’ll get a perfect taste of what makes these two global dance music sensations.
The landscape of underground dance music has changed dramatically in the 15 years since Pearson Sound, Ben UFO and Pangaea sparked an idea to press some records. With James Blake, Blawan, Randomer, Call Super, Batu, Joy Orbison or Shanti Celeste in their catalog, it’s easy to figure out why they’re often cited as the most influential British club label of their generation.
Pearson Sound’s productions are always eagerly awaited. Foxing expectations with each release, he’s as comfortable making garage-loaded house or sinister, cinematic techno. His tour schedule regularly features some of the most respected clubs and festivals across the world, steadily building momentum as one of the UK's most adventurous DJs.
Nick León is one of the most exciting figures in dance music at the moment and his meteoric rise doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. His dystopian club music samples the sounds of Florida’s diverse ecosystem, but his style has varied fearlessly along the way. He started 2022 on a high note, claiming a production credit on one of the most well reviewed albums of the year – MOTOMAMI by Rosalía.
As of recent, Nick’s highly praised Latin-inflected techno jam Xtasis ended up being Resident Advisor’s track of the year and a go-to peak time banger for DJ's across numerous scenes. Much like his productions, León's set wove strands of all-things-latin together with techno, forging a singular sonic thread.
Expect an undoubtedly thrilling club session full of rare gems, forward-thinking new cuts and dancefloor classics from the duo. They’ll be joined by Feloneezy, a mainstay on the leftfield club circuit, and Bianca Intensa - another Apgrade debut performance we’re happy to host.
We are happy to welcome you on June 3rd in Barutana as we warm up for the main event - Apgrade Festival, coming September 2023.
