Mansur Brown gelingt, was viele versuchen: Musik zu erschaffen, die unmittelbar klingt und so echt ist, wie das Leben, wenn es sich nicht beobachtet fühlt.
Mansur Brown ist die Definition eines Wunderkinds. Ein klassisch ausgebildeter Gitarrist, Kurator und multidisziplinärer Künstler. Er hat bereits in der Alternative-Jazz-Band TriForce mitgewirkt, an der Seite von Yussef Dayes und Kamaal Williams gespielt und gehört zu den großen Namen der neuen Londoner Szene, die sich durch Abenteuerlust und Innovationsfreude auszeichnet.
In seiner kompositorischen Herangehensweise verbindet Mansur seine filigrane, von Flamenco beeinflusste Gitarre mit seinen eigenen Produktionen, die von der Rhythmik des Timbaland der frühen 00er Jahre, dem Swing des Afrobeats und dem melancholischen Sounddesign von Burial geprägt sind. Zwar steht die Gitarre im Mittelpunkt, in seiner vielseitigen Rolle als Songwriter, Produzent und Multiinstrumentalist greift er aber auch gelegentlich zu Keyboards, Flöte und Saxophon.
Letztes Jahr veröffentlichte er mit Naqi Vol. 1 + 2 auf seinem eigenen Label Amai Records zwei digitale EPs die später als „Naqui Mixtape“ zusammengefasst erschienen sind. Eine Hälfte klingt wie für den Sommer gemacht, mit harten Drums und Low-End-Sub, während die andere introspektive Songs mit cineastischen und außerweltlichen Sounds enthält.
“I like my music to have a club feel at its core, but to keep hold of that sense of musicality,” he explains. “Having that sense of movement, but with guitar melodies, keyboards and strings over the top – that’s always been a dream of mine.”

Mansur Brown is the definition of a prodigy: a classically trained guitarist, curator and multi-disciplinary artist whose music balances virtuoso precision with deft expressions of emotion. Mansur’s distinctive compositional approach finds him blending his intricate, flamenco-influenced guitar with his own original production work, informed by the rhythmic snap of early ‘00s Timbaland, the swing of Afrobeats and the melancholic sound design of Burial.
Guitar remains at the centre of Mansur’s music, but it’s by no means the only component. Straddling the roles of songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist, records like 2021’s Heiwa find him reaching for keyboards, flute and saxophone.
Last year he released Naqi Vol. 1 + 2 on his own label Amai Records, two digital EPs that were later released together as the "Naqui Mixtape". One half sounds like it was made for summer, with hard drums and low-end subs, a collection of club heaters that set Brown’s melodic guitar to a set of rich, filled-out dancefloor productions, while the other contains introspective songs with a cinematic sound design.
