Play On heads back to the beautiful North Magdalen Laundry at the Abbotsford Convent for a night of contemporary classical chamber music featuring stunning London-based mezzo-soprano Lotte Betts-Dean.

Praised by The Guardian for her “irrepressible sense of drama and unmissable, urgent musicality,” Lotte is joined for this Play On exclusive by an all-star cast of Melbourne instrumentalists: Ken Murray (guitar), Laila Engle (flute) Campbell Banks (cello) and Alex Meagher (percussion). Presenting music by contemporary classical composers from across Australia and around the world, this program highlights the versatility, diversity and brilliance of contemporary chamber music today.
Following the opening program, kāmna - DJ, facilitator and cofounder of South Asian creative collective Kerfew - steps up to the decks with a percussion focussed dance set curated in response to the opening program. Focused on showcasing the bridges between her cultural heritage and her love for the club, kāmna’s selections can range from Indian classical music, Bollywood, Qawali to UKG, dub, drum n bass and hard drum.
