Aswad, formed in Ladbroke Grove in 1975, were one of the first home-grown acts to help Caribbean music take root in Europe - working with legendary artists such as Burning Spear, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer. Reggae hits in the 70s, such as Back To Africa, Love Fire and Warrior Charge, were followed by chart-toppers like Don’t Turn Around in the 80s and 90s. Ramrock Hi-Fi is a combination of two outstanding DJ talents – UK music don, Ashley Beedle and trailblazer, Jo Wallace. Between them, they have over 80 years DJ’ing experience within the realms of reggae, house, rare groove, jazz and everything in between. Ashley Beedle and Shock made their mark as the first sound system to play House music at Notting Hill Carnival. Ashley went on to become a legendary producer, credited with turning Elton John’s Are You Ready For Love into a UK chart-topping dance hit. His own work also topped the charts as X-Press 2 with Lazy ft David Byrne, as part of an imense legacy of remixes and productions. Black Obsidian Sound System (B.O.S.S) presents DJs Mellowdramatics and Sham. Established in 2018, B.O.S.S aims to bring together a community of queer, trans and non-binary Black and people of colour involved in art, sound and radical activism. Following the legacies of sound system culture they aim to learn, build and sustain a resource for our collective struggles. The black-led London sound system facilitates live performances, club nights, art installations, technical workshops and creative commissions - including a short film ‘Collective Hum’ (2019) for LUX & the ICO and 'The Only Good System is a Sound System' for Liverpool Biennial (2020). In 2021 B.O.S.S was shortlisted for the Turner Prize. Mellowdramatics is a founding member of B.O.S.S and crew member of Tanum Sound System who’s played all over the U.K. and internationally in Paris, Berlin & San Juan.
